I realize this is a wild guess at best. But I am curious how others view this team as it journeys on to being relevant again in the NFL. When would you guess that we will be a playoff caliber team? Not one that gets lucky and stumbles into a wild card spot and is one-and-done, but a team that truly is playoff caliber - a good team.
And what steps need to be taken to get us to that point?
Some may think this is optimistic after what we watched yesterday, but I really do think 2018. I think it all comes down to QB and we have him, he is just green as a gourd. I think he'll get some valuable playing time this year and come into 2018 as the starter with some nice seasoning from 2017. I also think we absolutely need some WR's in the off season next year and hope they don't all go down like this year. I don't know how to judge our Defense right now after just tow games. Game one they did pretty good against a very good offense, but with yesterdays turnovers on a hot Florida day, how can you judge from that. Mike Glennon and Tarik Cohen killed our Defense yesterday. Those guys had to be gassed by the end of the day.
I think 2018 is realistic to have that CHANCE to be competitive, but I also don't like Fox to stay and I also don't like the idea of blowing it all up. I am basing my opinion of Fox leaving and Vic stepping up as HC, thus leaving the core coaching staff and philosophy.

I think that is certainly possible. And I know there's a lot of wild guesswork involved in predicting something like this. There are a number of key variables in play here. But a 4th Pace draft (with a sky high draft pick that is coming), and a 4th Pace free agency, should have the roster pretty solid going into Pace's 4th season here. And if not, then we have a problem with Pace regarding his stocking the roster with the talent it needs to win.
Regarding Fox, I can't imagine him getting another season with this team. Granted, that means a new coaching staff next season. But there is a difference (I think) from the roster talent Fox inherited in 2015, versus the talent a new coach will inherit in 2018. In fact I believe it will be significant. I'm not saying a new coach will win year one, but I think that is definitely within the realm of possibility. I hope so. And I look forward to the fanbase having something hopeful for 2018.
