Cuz you play to win. When your season is lost you play to win but hope for a loss. But you never stop trying. Silly rabbit.... tricks are for kids. You knew that one.
Course I do, just pointing out the absurdity of demanding players play hard but not hard enough to actually win. Stupid Hicks and his 5 sacks, and Howard with his 300+ yards and only 1 QB turnover in those 3 games. Maybe someone from here should write them and set them straight. Explain to them how it would be better for the team if they lost cause obviously they don't get understand team concepts.
ok, so as you understand the absurdity of demanding players trying to lose, so does everyone else here also. Not sure why we are going there again. Still think it would have been better for the team next year to lose more games this year. How much better depends on who gets picked one and two and who we wanted.
I get where you stand. Absurdity does not make it any clearer.
so wait..... I want to understand this. He was under a ton of pressure and he didn't force it into triple coverage for a pick or didn't fumble it?
You sure he is a QB? I thought that's how you play QB. Not sure he is suitable for Chicago.
Seriously.... didn't watch the game, but sounds like everyone had good things to say. The trap is in maybe it being an outlier game. I still remember one game (probably the only one) that Grossman played like Joe Montana Jr. and I thought to myself, we have ourselves a real QB here. But it was only one game. Everyone remembers him for his other games.
I hear the concern on outlier game but this kid took Clemson to the National Title 2 years in a row and barely lost to Alabama last year. This kids for real and this is his norm in my opinion.
sure sounds like it. And if that is the case we won't get him. Who would be the second choice and how much worse would he be. We stand a darned good chance of getting the second best QB if that is the direction we want to go. Or possibly the best if the guy everyone thinks is the best is really not. And that happens often.
Exactly!!!!! I think Pace is smarter than that though and will base his decisions on each players wholistic performance over this past year rather than one great bowl game or combine numbers
+1 I agree.
The bowl game was just the icing on a the cake of a GREAT career. Of course you don't base a draft upon one game. We all know that. But that doesn't diminish the final performance of that great career. It just adds more data for the Bears scouts and Ryan Pace to consider. And it is a solid data point to consider. On the biggest stage, in the biggest game in college football - this guy put a team on his back and WILLED it to beat one incredibly powerful football team.
Some QB's have that "it" factor. This guy has it. He has the full-package, and he has displayed that over his entire football career going back to high school (he QB'd his HS team to a state championship too). The guy is a winner.
He is everything Jay Cutler isn't.
The thing that makes me believe Watson is the real deal is he got his team there 2 years in a row. That is consistency in college, and yes last night he had that "IT" factor going. He willed his team to win, he took some good hits early and seemed disengaged but continued to press until things turned around and the last 7 minutes of that game was just crazy the way Bama and Clemson just refused to lose. EPIC "IT" was. :-). Look at the schedule they play as well, not many scrub teams, several have been in the big game the last few years. My main concern now is if he will be avail when we pick.
As a college LB he's good - as a pro he's John Timu . I wouldn't draft him any higher than the 4-5 rd .
What makes you say that?
He's not quite athletic enough , not quite fast enough and not quite big enough for the pro game to be a bona-fide NFL linebacker . Sorry but it's true . He 's the kind of guy who might survive by being just barely good enough with his instincts , hustle and toughness ... but guys like him are nothing special at the pro level .
Watson is a great prospect, but he doesn't always go through progressions or read the D after the snap well. Some of the NFL's zone coverages and the speed of guys (guys that can show blitz and get into coverage for example) will be a problem for him. Good leader, hard worker and good athlete that has a quick release and good feet from shotgun. On the move his footwork isn't great and leads to high throws, that could also mean he'll take time to adjust to throwing under center BUT unlike leftwich he does have "quick" feet and is actually capable of playing under center with proper footwork. Doesn't guarantee he will, but that's why work ethic is important. I like him more that TB QB coming out of college because or work ethic/ focus.
Another guy who stood out was he Clemso LB. Man what a game that guy seems like a monster. Anyone on here follow Clemson and if so does he always seem that dominate?
Gimmie a number. if you mean Boulware (#10) he lacks the athleticism to cover but has a great personality and seems like a good teammate. He's been productive with more than 100 tackles but this guy is a fringe starter in terms of raw athleticism. Contributor and would take the place of Timu imo if the Bears took him.
EDIT:: somehow didn't see Blueshoes. pretty much what he said.

I know Watson isn't as stupid as Young was, but Vince Young got into pick #3 the same way Watson did. Watson is smart and tough, he has lots to offer but Needs Coaching. Same with the others.
I still think Pace prefers a QB with more accuracy. That would be Trubinsky
Even if we'd lost one more game to anyone other than the 49ers (as they'd have 3 wins then) we'd still have picked @ the #3 spot due to their SOS.
If Watson's picked before us it's a futile case in extrapolation:
If Watson turns out to be a legit starter and tears up the league for 15 years, that doesn't mean he would have been successful for the Bears (and vice versa)
This is true. The rest is just attempted justification. You can say any pro bowler might not have been one with the Bears or any other team. I'll take my chances with a Manning or Rodgers or Brady on the Bears and I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope he doesn't flush out of the league.
