I think that any college QB who runs as part of their college offense will need to cut back on how much they run in the NFL. NFL defensive player are too big, too fast, too smart and too mean.
I think the ability to run is an advantage for a NFL QB. Especially of the QB can make big plays in space on the move. It pulls a LB or DB out of coverage to one extent or another to pay attention to the QB. But running a lot as a QB in the NFL almost guarantees injuries and a shortened career.
+1 I thought the exact same thing watching Watson run. But this is one of those areas where he will adjust to the NFL. He can still make plays from time to time with his feet, but be smart about it and slide and go down before a D guy blows you up. He's not a real hefty QB to begin with. LOL, when I watched him run like an RB in those Clemson games I thought that would be a really bad thing in the NFL and end up with him being a regular on the IR list :-)

The Bears have a really big MASH/rodding tent set up on the facilities. Quantities do not bother us.
I wasn't saying every throw was, is or needs to be perfect..just saying i noticed those things. Like his back shoulder throws he likes. And I if I was sober I would link it up for you...but just YouTube "Deshaun Watson vs"...
And as far as the Auburn game here...
His third pass alone was a wtf pass and I'm not surprised the Wr alligator armed that shit! You have a Safety AND a LB with a bulls-eye on ya. Then the 4th pass was an odd check down..then the 5th in the replay you can see he wasn't going to be on target regardless...and on and on...there was the pass waaay out of bounds, another where he was behind on the slant route which made the Wr stop...or the 3rd qtr Int...
Look i'm not trying to bust balls or or be right...it's just my opinion on what I see.
If your receiver excels at the back shoulder grab....and they can't stop it....why not throw it over and over and over again? Also...do you know how hard a throw that is? Not a lot guys do it very well in college.
Well then remove the back shoulder throw as a negative lol idk
I just think he won't have the same success with that kind of throw in the NFL like he has had in college, but who knows right! lol
I agree he makes some great throws but here is another game where we see the same things.
1st pass we see is off target bad :49 - no pressure and overthrown ball 1:55 - gets lucky on a back shoulder throw that was inside of the Wr but got the job done for this play 2:52 - great pass!! hits the guy in stride and that's what i like seeing 3:20 - the Cutler moment!...end the drive that consisted of great to good throws with a shitty off target turnover 3:55 - good throw and got points off the turnover after his int... 4:33 - he fumbles... 5:00 - poor deep ball with lucky flag 5:29 - good deep ball with TD 6:11 - good throw, Wr didn't need to jump but he did lol 6:31 - would have been a nice throw imo then a couple nice throws and they score... then a slant int that is more on the Wr but once again the ball was a bit behind imo 8:50 - bad deep ball 10:27 - wtf int...this imo is what happens when you try that back shoulder shit all the time 11:15 - good pass and TD 12:30 - nice pass and gave his guy a chance then he makes some great plays to win the game....
Once again, I'm not hating on the kid. The Bears may actual get him so I can't go into it with hate lmao I just see Cutler-like things in him. He has great plays and piss poor plays throughout the entire game. Yes he is overcoming his mistakes at the college level, but will he be able to overcome them at the NFL level...can he fix himself unlike Jay and actually develop the skills he has...
I also worry about the use of him as a runner in college and the abuse his body has taken. Also will he still run with the same style in the NFL? cus if he does he might as well hop in the coffin now lol
evaluating the guy isn't personal for me. you called out some legit holes in his game.
Not only did Deshaun Watson lead Clemson to a national title, he helped his draft stock. Dramatically.
Two NFL personnel directors and one NFL general manager each predicted this week, after Monday night's national championship win, that Watson has pushed himself into the top half of the first round. One predicted: "Cleveland could take him at No. 1 -- look who's coaching them." Another said Watson would be a top-five pick, while the third was supremely confident that Watson would go within the top 10.
"All I'm saying is this," one personnel director said this week, "if [Robert Griffin III] and Vince Young and Marcus Mariota can go in the top couple of picks, there's no question Deshaun Watson can. He led his team against Alabama, one of the best defenses we've seen in a long time. He's done a ton of winning since he's been at Clemson. Absolutely do I think someone can take him in the top 10.
"He's better than Vince Young. He's a better kid, a better thrower. Would I take him there? No, I would not. But what gives the kid a chance is he's a tremendous kid, unbelievable competitor with a great skill set. But he's got inconsistent accuracy and throws a lot of interceptions. But this whole thing is momentum, like stocks. His stock is rising. Everything he does between now and draft, will build. He will look great, test great, interview great. Absolutely he'll be a top-10 pick."
Deshaun Watson was brilliant in leading Clemson to the national championship, and his draft value could be higher as a result. Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Another personnel man predicted Watson will draw Cleveland's interest, even though many believe the Browns are focusing in on Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett. "The head coach will like him," the personnel director said of Browns coach Hue Jackson. "You can see that. He wanted to bring RG3 over -- this is a much better player than RG3, and RG3 went second in the draft."
In two national championship title games against Alabama the past two years, Watson threw for 825 yards, ran for another 116 and produced eight touchdowns -- seven through the air and one on the ground. Those performances have pushed him back up in the draft.
"Here's what you have with Deshaun Watson," one personnel director said. "He was the first pick in the draft in all mocks a year ago. He struggled some in midseason, so everyone got off him. But these last couple of weeks, he's skyrocketing up to the top 10 picks, with the two playoff game wins. Now people are going to say, 'Wait a minutes, he's played Alabama the past couple of years really well, he won a national championship, he can be a Mariota, he can be a [Dak] Prescott, great character, great kid.' People will not want to miss him. I think he's definitely going in the top 10."
If Watson was the overall #1 pick in last years draft, how are people that are high on him going off of just 1 game?
And the NFL is seeing it also; again this could all change after the combine pro days and interviews but right now Watson is a high first round pick easy.
Unfortunately for us, I think you are right. If Watson starts being really hyped, he will be gone by #3.
Trade them Cutler, LOL, its about time the Bears get on the winning side of a trade.
The trouble with trading Cutler is all the teams want the Bears to give them 2 first rounder. They figure the Bears were dumb enough to give up 2 first rounders to get him they should be more then will to give up 2 first rounders to get rid of him

He's going to go high in the draft. Not because of 1 game. It will be due to his entire body of work to date. It's not based upon one game though. That is a stupid comment, IMHO. Give the NFL scouts more credit than that. Heck, give us posters on this messageboard more credit than that. The National Championship win was just one game, but it was the cherry on top of the sundae, the icing on the cake - what a great way to cap off a GREAT career.

The idea that he is inaccurate is misinformation. If any scout watched tape they'd say he is undersized with an adequate arm that throws high on the move when he doesn't set his feet. Inaccurate passers don't beat safety over the top throwing sideline to sideline back shoulder stuff. He stares down primary on los reads occasionally.
Wilson literally showed all those flaws today against the Falcons.
If your scouts like bortels, they are out of touch with the league and college game. Good NFL teams aren't undercenter nearly as much, hieght is less important.
The back shoulder throw is the most important throw a prospect can make IMO because pass interference rules allow wrs to run over trailing CBS on underthrown balls and get the call even when they initiate contact.
