There's nothing useful to say about the last few seasons here in Chicago. They are now just "past seasons" and we can't do anything about the past. It's over.
Now I am looking at Ryan Pace to see what he does to improve the team - both with coaches and players. The team fired Lovie Smith after a 10-win season, so that we could get "better" as a team.
Better.
Just when is this "better" thing going to happen? Will we be "better" than 10-wins this 2017 season? In 2018? When does this "better" thing happen?
I voted 10 wins or more this season so what do I know. I really felt we had the horses to do that. Even after this crap fest, I look back at the teams we had to beat and still feel that 3 wins was really something I could not and should not expect. Something is broken.

It is the franchise itself that is broken. It has become nothing more than a revenue resource for the various McCaskey family members. The franchise has lurched through the mediocre and downright bad years - but the cash flow is always coming in to the family. What incentive is there to effect REAL and meaningful change?
As fans we are getting played by a business. An sports "entertainment" business that understands that they can put any crap product out there and it will STILL make them hundreds of millions of dollars a year. What incentive is there for them to truly change?
This is easy for them. Every couple years they can throw the fans a bone by firing a GM or a HC and it's back to "business as usual" and the money keeps coming in.
I thought Soul and some of you others were wrong about the McCaskeys and Ted Philips. But I was wrong. I stepped back and looked at the entire "body of work" by the owners, spanning decades. I'm not the smartest guy. But even with me the light bulb finally went on. The common denominator in the "Fale" here is the owners and the President/CEO Ted Philips. Not Fox. Not Trestman. Not Lovie Smith. Not Angelo, Emery or Ryan Pace. The common factor in the failed franchise is the owners and top-level execs.

Completely agree, BiH.
There are are people here who say our coaching sucked. Many say we lack talent on the player roster. Some blame the injuries. All of the above are true IMHO.
Like you, I thought there was reason for optimism in August. And like you I do think something is seriously wrong beyond just you and I maybe being a little too optimistic.
Our strength of schedule this this year was a complete joke as you point out. We played exactly TWO truly "good teams" this year (Dallas & NYG). Count 'em -- TWO!!!! That's is, folks. Every other opponent was either a nothing-special team or total garbage. Let's look at our own weak division. GB and Detroit made the playoffs (barely) but neither is going anywhere. Minnesota isn't much better than us. We went 2-4 against these clowns. Even worse, we went 0-4 against the AFCS, probably the worst division in the NFL. NONE of those 4 teams are remotely "good". We barely beat the lowly Niners and got blown out against non-playoff teams like Philly, Washington, and Tampa.
Meanwhile for the 2nd straight year most key Bears players can't get or stay healthy and the entire WR Corps and Secondary was wiped out like Italy during the Bubonic Plague.
Hate to to sound black helicopter, but something isn't right.
