It's January 1st and time to turn over a new leaf so with that though in mind if Fox is coming back I've decided to join ptisme as an honorary Packer fan for 2017 or until someone around Halas Hall decides to do something they haven't already done 100 times already which is **** up. So just call me cheesy from now on. Soulman is going into hibernation.
Sorry guy, repeat that one more time and no soup for you!

Ha ha, glad your back! If they couldn't turn me into a Packer fan when I lived there I guess it's too late for it now. Beside I'm "cheesy" enough without actually becoming a Packer fan.
I'm bittterly disappointed in Amos this year. Not only has he now played 32 games without a single INT, he seems to be whiffing on open field tackles now when he wasn't last year.
He's just another mediocre player on a team of mediocre players. We have too many of these guys on our roster. Pace has added some promising young players, but we don't have enough of them yet to be a solid NFL team. In particular we don't have a solid QB either.
You can't do much in the NFL with a roster like we now have. Ryan Pace has his work cut out for him THIS off-season. This will be his 3rd draft & 3rd free agency opportunity. I acknowledge the injury factor, but I also see a mediocre roster led by a mediocre coach in John Fox.
Nothing great is going to happen until something changes here - both with the talent AND the coaching.
He won a lot of praise last year right outta the box and I'd hoped we'd finally found a young safety who was a steal in the draft in the 5th round. He certainly looked to have more potential last year than Bush does this year and Bush was a 4th rounder. But AA has failed to progress at all in his 2nd year--you could argue he's REGRESSED instead--and so instead of a steal he's become just another late round depth player only.
This team needs not only it's high picks to live up to their billing (here's looking at you, Kevin White) but to also score some late round surprises (like Howard) to get back to competitiveness. Look at the Seahawks of the last several years. Much of that team was built with mid-late rounders and even some udfas.
I was hoping Amos would become another one of those pieces (like Howard and Meredith seem to be) but he totally flopped this year. Yet another disappointment after a promising start.
Well Amos is not the guy to be playing centerfield FS that's for sure. It would have been nice to have had a healthy Kyle Fuller and taken a shot with moving him to FA and then there's Hall as well but again we're talking about converting guys to a position they've never played and I'm about worn out with that approach.
Pace needs to sign some "fits" in FA and I think a FS needs to be at the top of his list along with another vet CB. I like Porter but man the guy is always hurting and has been most of his career so he's seldom playing at 100%. When he is he's not a bad CB but how often is 100%. The best DBs we have seem to be the smaller guys and that doesn't fit the scheme well either.
Off topic of Jimmy G but wanted to post about Amos:
Amos to me is the poster child for how fans tend to think about players. Most people I know/talk to like Amos because he's only a 5th round pick and what did I expect out of him. After all, he's doing better than most 5th round picks. Personally once a player is on the roster, his draft round to me ceases to be important. Is he bringing the most value to the position possible on game day is the only question worth asking at this point. If he's not (and clearly Amos isn't) its time to move on. He might have been a great 'value pick,' but once the lights go out on the draft, that discussion is over. Right now Amos is an under-achieving safety on a team that needs better play from its DBs.

Well, you are right Soul. I think they could move Fuller to FA!

+1 Exactly. The players either get it done, or not. It's not a good thing if any player is mediocre of worse. Who cares where they were drafted? I agree with you.

Don't know what's up with that guy Alex but I'm not getting any warm fuzzy feelings about his future with the Bears. I just don't think he's a fit at CB for how they want him to play and I think he feels it too.
He was drafted to play in one style defense and then ends up in another and it's also quite possible he doesn't want to move to FS. He'll make far more as CB if he becomes a FA. If Pace adds some CBs in FA and the draft it would not shock me at all to see him either traded or released.
He could be this years Matt Slauson surprise waiver.

I think so too, especially if Fox and co. stay. Maybe they already suggested the position move to him and he refused, thats why this IR.

Well said Brasil. After all, Jordan Howard was a 5th rounder too, right? Doesn't much matter when you were picked once you get out on the dance floor. I will say that I do give guys the benefit of the doubt in their rookie year, after all, they ARE human. I also take into consideration the program they come from, as I think we all do; but once you get past that rookie season, you need to do the job and it doesn't matter if you were picked first overall or Mr. Irrelevant.
It's not unheard of to see guys take a few years to find their way, but the fact is, these teams all need to win now for coaches to keep their jobs and shit flows down hill; if the coach is going to feel heat, then the players are going to feel heat and unless you make yourself difficult to replace, you're gonna be gone sooner rather than later. No one can take the time to hold your hand and show you the way and if you need that then you aren't going to make it in this league.
