Found it interesting and upsetting that new OC Thomas Brown is on a short list to be a Head Coach. Might have been list from Athletic.
I am happy for Brown, and they reference him taking over in Carolina last year and doing the same in Chicago. Also kudos for Green Bay game and Caleb getting ball out almost full second faster.
So if he has been on staff why didn't any of the issues with Caleb holding the ball surface in meetings prior to him taking over. Do they not have meetings and review game tape. If he could flip a switch so quick why didn't Waldron. And he's gone so what is upsetting is why didn't Flus get Waldron to adjust this. What was Flus doing and what is Poles doing. Don't the Scouts / GM give feedback also. EPIC FAIL, I suppose you can throw Warren with them if he is on top of Poles and Football ops. Atleast George McC tells you he is just a fan and doesn't claim to get the details.
The good thing is that Thomas Brown has almost half a season to show if he's any good or not as an OC. He has a priceless opportunity to set himself up for an HC gig somewhere. Successful OC's are going to get HC jobs. That's one reason why I'm leaning towards hiring a head coach with an offense background so that Caleb has stability there spanning the years - like Mahomes has with Andy Reid. That is the model. I figure DC's are not THAT difficult to hire. They really aren't. But great OC's are. We are the poster boy for that one here in Chicago with failure after failure on offense, while we've had a number of good defenses over the past 30 or 40 years here.
If Eberflus does screw up more and lose the locker room, I'd make Thomas Brown HC for the rest of the season. I'd be 100% fine with that. Not saying he'd be a long term answer at HC. But for the last part of the season I'd be fine with that.

Even if he deserves it JABF, I'd be against it. CW has already had a change in OC, A second one would not be helpful to him. And it looks like Brown has been beneficial to him. I'd like to see him stay at OC. If he tries to do both HC and OC when he is still figuring out OC, I think he would go from effective to ineffective. I think for now, leave OC alone. Let Flus eff up another big decision or two just to make it perfectly clear to Poles that his boy should go and then lets figure out what to do for next year. The cheap way out is to make Brown HC next year but then we have yet another first time HC trying to learn the ropes. He might end up being good, but we roll the dice yet again and if wrong screw up all the moves Poles has made in building the team as these guys age out of the rookie contracts while Warren and Poles fumble around with coaching miscues.

Now that I think about it, you're probably right there. It should be all about Caleb these final 7 games.

I would guess Brown would still retain OC even if he is active HC

I agree, but is he ready to do both HC and OC at this point? How long has he actually been doing OC playcalling? It just seems like too much overload too suddenly.

I think so, but could a guy who just got the OC job do both? He may not even be able to do the HC job for all we know. I think too much to put on him, but that's JMO

that's possible I suppose, now is as good of a time to find out though.

well, yeah. I really can't argue. I mean you do and only after do you know if it was a good thing or a bad thing. Usually for the bad news Bears, it doesn't go our way

But is that a problem? I don't think that is an issue here. Just sayin'
