I watch CW a lot during the games. Because I like him and want him to succeed. And I might be too hard on him because I want him to succeed so bad.
Am I the only one seeing this? I think this is the first time I have seen a QB be further ahead in the mental game than the physical game. I mean he really seems like he sees the field and understands defenses way better than I expected this early in his career. It’s crazy how fast he is getting it. And I believe that might be the most important part of a QBs game.
And while he is gifted physically, he throws way too many passes that just really miss the target. It’s not all bad of course. He is elusive and he gets yards with feet. He can see when to run, etc
He hangs on to the ball too long and takes sacks he shouldn’t but I’m not worried about that. This will get better IMO.
It’s the misses that bother me. His college history shows deadly accuracy. So this is not what I expected. I thought I would see accurate throws and him struggling to get the mental part of the game. It’s been the other way around.
Now I get he doesn’t always have a lot of time but QBs make accurate throws under pressure all the time and he was no stranger to pressure in college.
So I’m not getting it. I can’t blame bad play calling because that would explain why he wasn’t able to have people open etc, but when the throws are there and he misses, I don’t get it
Too much adrenaline? Targets and he still not on the same page at this point? Anyone have any input?
I'm thinking it is a combination of factors in play here. I do think he was amped up for this game in particular (Tony Romo commented on this too yesterday). I'm sure some of it is timing/chemistry as he transitions to the NFL game with new WR's and a new playbook too. We've seen him make these passes in college so we know he is capable of making them. He will begin to hit these passes more effectively with experience - that's what this season is all about.
I'm thinking he'll have to learn a new offense next year with the new coaching staff. That will be one step back but hopefully it will be better for him in the long run here.

Yes, exactly. It's not like he has historically been inaccurate. Still nags at me though... If you have accuracy, then you have it. So why so many errant throws?
I agree. We have consistently failed to get a qb who can read a defense and make the throws that he has. He’s way ahead in this regard and I’m a believer that he may be what we hope for when we drafted him. Coaching will make or break his career as I think the rest of his skill set is there and will get better with experience.
In terms of his misses/inaccuracy I think he’s still forcing throws than letting them occur naturally even when players are unexpectedly open. He’s unnecessarily rushing the throw when he doesn’t have to. I believe he’ll settle down as time goes on.

I think he's letting worry about INTs creep in. His throws, ever since the dropped INT by the sideline that would have been a pick-6, appear to me to be done with as little risk as possible. To me thats why he's over thrown, thrown way ahead of players and even thrown balls over guys head.
I don't know this for sure, but it feels that way.

Sounds like it to me too. I'm guessing flus is pounding it into his head to not throw anything that could remotely be an INT. Just another approach to screwing up a QB that we do so well.

Honestly, that has been my suspicion too. I wanted hear someone else say it. It's not like he can't do it

Yeah, he was amped up/anxious to start and missed a bunch of throws he could/should have made. Did same thing week 1 vs Tennessee.
I commented on this in the shoutbox at the time -- he missed 3 throws to Keenan that all would have been 20+ yard gains. 2 of the 3 were tough throws and even under pressure but guess what, you're the #1 pick and you need to make tough throws under pressure. THAT is what separates good NFL starters from QBs like Mitch and Justin.
To his credit, he did finally start to make those plays in Q4 but he didn't at all in Q1-Q3.
Much is being made about his accuracy (again, lacking early but present in Q4) and much has been made about Daniels accuracy too. Like, Caleb is inaccurate and Daniels is accurate.
BULL SHIT 3 of Daniels "completions" were completely undefended passes (2 final plays of the game and the final play of the 1st half). Otherwise, he was only 50% and he hit only 1 really tough throw.
Daniels didn't win that game; Flus/Waldron lost it.

That's what I am seeing. But to say CW is inaccurate is a but of a stretch. I would say he makes more inaccurate throws than he should and if comparing to Daniels, yes he seems make more of them than Daniels does. Just because I don't like it doesn't make it go away

Caleb was bad yesterday until Q4 and I am not disputing that. I am definitely NOT giving him a pass. In the shoutbox during the game I was super hard on him -- he was crapping the bed on a big stage until he rallied at the end. Without the Bears D keeping them alive, that game would have been over at halftime.
In fact, Caleb was my vote for "Deflated Ball" until Flus/Waldron utterly mismanaged the end of the game and pissed away the comeback.
