If you want to put that on coaching thats fine, but Briggs and Wooton are calling him out for his ego being bigger then his play. I don't tend to agree w/Briggs much, but in this 100%. players play, there is 0 reason for a player think the game is over w/seconds on the clock. No coach teaches a player to taunt the crowd w/the game on the line. No coach teaches a player to not play when the ball is being snapped.
Now, if Stevenson is on the field next week, 100% on Flus.
This is how you blame Flus: was he the one that hired Waldron over the other OC's, or was that Poles, if it was Flus, that's on him.
Did Flus tell Poles the OL was fine and didn't need upgraded, or was that on Poles? If it was Flus, then he's the problem
Did Flus have final say on any O play calling? If so, the poor play calls are on Flus.
1 of those might be true though. The OC.
Here is 100% what Flus has an issue with; his team seems to have a discipline issue. On a 65 yard hail marry, he didn't bring any pressure on a mobile QB, again I didn't like that, and Briggs/Wooton and even Hoge said the same thing. Sweat wasn't on the field during the hail marry, 100% on Flus.
3 issues of the game are 100% on flus, all 3 showed up on the last play.
That all being said, the Def allowed sub 20 points, Flus's side did it's job. The O failed; specifically the OL that got beat terribly for 3/4's of the game. Caleb was dealing w/pressure and forced to scramble way to often on his drop backs. Swift wasn't getting holes to run through far to often.
Some of those O issues are on Waldron, it wasn't until late into the 3rd, or 4th that he started trying to NOT run swift up the gut or run at all on first down. He didn't once try and help Kiran w/TE help, that's a terrible understanding of what is going on w/the personnel. Same w/the goalline scoring, why are you throwing w/sub 1min left and on the goalline; run and kill the clock, if they don't throw, what was an incomplete there isn't enough time for the hail marry.
*Per Flus they do practice handing the ball off to the backup OL for a goalline play. It's fine not to like the playcall, but at the end of the day, it's practiced and he should be able to handle a handoff, OL aren't lumbering oafs w/no athletic ability. Good playcall, no. Is it inexcusable, also no. If he takes the handoff like practiced and he gets a TD, no one is calling for Waldron or Flus to be fired. Players play, players execute. They matter more then coaching.
There are no coaches that win close games or games against good teams w/the OL that the Bears are fielding; and that imo is on Poles more then the coaches; unless Flus has more say on the team then I think he does.
I don't disagree with any of your points in substance. I can quibble that maybe that FB dive at that point in the game wasn't the best call. The later fade to Moore, maybe not the best call, although Flus seemed to say Williams had the option to throw it or run it himself.
Like you said, all of Flus' and by extension the coaching staffs' foibles came out during those last two minutes.
The DEF played their hearts out. No turnovers, but there is an element of luck involved there. The fumble on the KO went straight to a Washington guy. I bet the football wouldn't bounce that way if you dropped it randomly 100 times. The tip drill? Shit happens on tip drills. Thats why you don't even let the pass get off.
OL everyone knows is the problem, but it also seems Waldron can't figure out how to scheme around it. I'll go back to: The Commanders kept rushing 5 all game and yet....Waldron never had an answer. Why wasn't Lewis lined up next to the rookie LT more?
AND AGAIN! WHY WASN'T SWEAT ON THE FIELD FOR THE HAIL MARY? EVERY OTHER DE/EDGE YOU CAN NAME WOULD HAVE BEEN UT THERE! CROSBY, WATT, the BOSAS, GARRETT....
Thing is, there is supposed to be someone behind the last WR, that was Stevenson. Someone sent CHGO how a Def w/that setup is supposed to run, Stevenson not only wasn't ready for the play, he ran to make a play on the ball; which wasn't his job, and tipped it up(not down) to the player HE was supposed to have defense on. He has to get the Davis/VJJ treatment next week, he has to sit. He literally cost the team the game w/how he played this week.
Something else said on CHGO, apparently during last offseason the choice was between Stevenson and Smith; and this goes back to VJJ and really Swift when you think about it, they chose Stevenson for the big play capability, even though he was out of position more than Smith, who you could rely on. This coaching staff wants home run hitters at all costs, regardless of if their play down to down is a net neutral or negative. Again, want to knock Flus, why, when Stevenson is on tilt all game, do you put him out there over the more reliable Smith who you know is going to be where he is supposed to be?
100% no reason to rush 3, w/Sweat not being one of them. Should have rushed 4 to try and force the throw out sooner. Not sure I'd say blitz b/c Daniels is known for getting out of the pocket and throwing deep, but definitely try and get pressure on him.
last 2 weeks I said Waldron, this coaching staff, you got to see what would happen if the talent they were going against was even, or they had more talent. It looks fine. Problem is the OL prevents them from being on an even or having more talent. I cannot tell if Poles is giving Flus the Fields treatment of just making it look like he gave him enough to succeed while he actually tries to get him fired, or if Poles is also part of the problem. There is nothing correct in how he built this team, but I don't know how much say Flus has on how the team was built.
