Once you start talking about giving up control to a new guy coming through the door, it starts to cause territorialism. Which is probably there to begin with. Egos get in the way of what's best for the organization. I don't see it happening.
I have thought about this a lot in recent weeks. The franchise is in desperate need of someone who can actually coach at a high-level. Someone who absolutely will not accept mediocrity and will not tolerate ignorance or ignorant people. The best coaches of all time have been like this. Some have more polish than others as far as interpersonal skills, but they all were zealots about winning. Think about the greatest coaches and then think about OUR coaches here on the Bears. Our guys have been failures but "nice" guys who played well - they boasted about "collaboration" and gave the McCaskeys a comfort level so they could "dabble" in the football operations (players and coaches). But the McCaskeys have failed this sports franchise going back to the days of George Halas' tenure here... he knew football. These others don't. They depended upon an accountant... a nice fella who "collaborated" well (old Ted Phillips the bean counter).
Were did this get the football team though?
The franchise needs someone who is not an idiot, and who won't tolerate losing - and won't tolerate losers getting in his way as he fixes this team. Jim Harbaugh checks that box. Will he want complete control? Probably. Will he piss people off? Yes. Including the McCaskeys. But someone who knows his ass from a hole in the ground needs to be in control here. Not the "nice guys" and "collaborators" who give the McCaskey's warm fuzzy feelings - but who are incapable of building a winning team.
JABF, like I said before, George is a corporate guy. He is comfortable in that space. He is used to a businessman demeanor. Harbaugh is not like that. I really believe that is why they have shied away from coaches like that. I have been waiting to see what kind of guy they bring on. Of course ownership has the final veto, but if they keep their nose out of it, Warren may get a guy that is focused on just winning. Not that Flus is not, but he is not the kind of guy that you and I think we need. But we are ahead of ourselves. Right now, we do not even know if there will be a search for a new coach. It maybe Flus stays. I am guessing he does.
EDIT: I just saw the keep Flus posts. Guess I was right. I think the wrong decision, but we move on.

Well, I guess the Flush the Flus thread is dead. Let's hope it does not evolve into the Flush the 2024 season thread. I don't have much faith in him, but going to look at his positives and hope that his winning steak at the end actually meant something that he actually caused.

That would be the "winning streak" where he beat Arizona, Atlanta, Carolina (by 2 points, scoring only 1 TD at home when gifted the ball on the 1 yard line), and Minnesota (scoring zero TDs at home).
He had 2 decisive wins in that stretch and only one was against a quality team with a quality QB. The rest were crappy unimpressive wins vs crappy teams and/or backup QBs.
When he faced a key game vs GB week 18, he choked yet again.
But there was no one else better available, huh? This is the best we could do?

Sure.........
He also snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory several times. ok... I'm doing a reset. I don't agree with it. I don't like it, but he is our coach next year. I wish him success

+1 That's my take on it all, "we move on" and we hope that these decisions will work out this time. And they very well could. I think one key move to watch now is the coordinator hiring. Eberflus was not hired to be a coordinator but to be a good head coach. He was brand new to the job and has made his share of mistakes. But hopefully he is one who learns from mistakes and becomes better. I am so hoping he brings in great hires at both coordinator positions. If that does happen then holy cow we could be looking at this working out just fine.

That's how I see it. Even with my crystal balls, I can't say I know how it will work out. I have lots of reasons to think it is the wrong decision. There is another thread with MPbears were we go over some of it. But it's done. And hopefully they are right and I am wrong.

We all will, we just know it isn't going to work out the way they hope.
(Well, most of us. There are a few here that are only happy when the Bears lose.)
