"To be completely honest, I don't think there is a "quarterback of the future here" due to the fact the Bears don't know how to support a QB with an NFL-quality offensive line and competent coaching and play calling. It's like expecting circus monkeys to build a spaceship to the moon. LOL, it's probably insulting circus monkeys to compare them with these incompetents at Halas Hall."
I wish I could say that. I see no evidence to support it.
Before the game I would have leaned to the side that he's gonna be the guy. Now I'm definitely leaning the opposite. There's still time but it's more likely than not at this point that we should be moving on this coming offseason.
And I'm not putting all the blame on JF by any means. See my post in the deflated ball thread and I don't want to re-type it all.
The symptoms of the failure here are the QBs. The disease itself is the franchise failing to build an offense that a QB can support a QB so that he thrives here. I don't want to see a QB drafted just so the McCaskeys & the front office can throw a bone to the fanbase and shut them up - and save some jobs for a few more years. That is ALL it would be. Because until you have the people and players in place who understand how to build a solid offense - then it's just one more QB (failed QB) on the heap of 40+ failed quarterbacks here. For once I'd like them to treat the disease and actually build a credible offense... LOL, the NFL should ban Chicago from drafting the QB position until they have an NFL-quality OL, coaching staff etc. I noticed that JT O'Sullivan was stunned by the play calling BEFORE yesterday's game. He said it made no sense.
It doesn't make sense. How can we be in the 3rd year of Justin Fields and still have a crap O like we have - coaches and players? This team is no better than what we had in Fields' first season under Nagy... and the playcalling is no better than Nagy. I'm sorry, I don't get the incompetence. This is horrific football.
Dunno what to tell you other than this franchise just can't stop stepping on their own dicks.
They added to the OL this offseason, probably not enough and not in the right way but they did, and what happens? The starting-5 stumbles and bumbles through preseason unable to stay on the field as a unit and then the starting LT, a rare bright spot from last year, opens the RS by regressing badly and having his worst game of his career. The guy you signed to be your steady rock at C can't stay healthy and, when he is, has been sub-average every game. You kept old man Whitehair as the "vet leader" only to find out he still can't snap the ball and remains a liability at LG. Nate Davis, your top O FA signing, barely practiced all offseason cuz he's a fkn head case. And it showed week 1. Your own proven OL on the roster is made of glass and won't be here long-term. Oh and BTW, you passed up a 26yo All-Pro LT who later signed for a modest $16m AAV somewhere else because he "didn't fit the scheme".
Go EFF yourself. (Not saying that to you, JABF. Just Venting my frustrations at this awful Bears managerial team)
I have no freakin' clue WTF happened on the field coaching-wise yesterday. I can't wrap my head around it. Maybe someone here who played or coached major college level football can explain it to me. I can't fathom how you could call the same play or set of plays or same defensive alignment over and over, see it fail or get exploited over and over, and not immediately feel a profound sense of urgency to change things up. I'm talking a few series of failing and somehow not noticing that things aren't working out. Can someone explain that to me please?
That would be like driving the route you planned to the airport to catch your flight, finding out the road is closed for some reason, and just putting your car in park just sitting there rather than turning onto an alternate path. I simply don't understand.
Guarantee you Getsy would say either he can't trust the OL or can't trust Fields. I don't doubt for a second that both of those are true to some extent. Guess what? I don't care about your "level of trust", Luke. Your job this year is to evaluate Fields and his ability to operate an NFL offense. If you don't like your OL, then fix it. Put Lewis in there every play as a blocker and go. Let Fields air it out and use Moore and Claypool properly. If he throws 5 picks, then he throws 5 picks. YOUR JOB IS CALL A SCHEME THAT SUITS YOUR QB'S GAME AND SEE IF HE CAN OR CANNOT ASCEND AND IMPROVE.
Hoge pointed out the obvious in his pod after the game. If your plan was to throw all this horizontal short crap, which is NOT Field's game, then why is your best blocking WR (EQSB) inactive? Why did you trade the #1 pick for DJ Moore to throw to him only twice, both in the 1st quarter?
If you are worried about your pass pro, then why the hell didn't you get Orlando Brown when he was right there for the taking? Why didn't you upgrade your C position when you had multiple options to do so this offseason?
They will never answer these questions which pisses me off even more. I'd like to see these guys have to stand at a podium and be embarrassed by questions like these. You are paid millions of dollars to be experts at football so yes you should be publicly shamed and humiliated when your counterparts on the other team vastly outclass your sorry ass.
We are STILL waiting to see the Chicago Bears produce a skilled, at least competent, NFL caliber passing offense. To do that you need 4 things: Quality QB Quality pass pro Quality receiving weapons Quality playcalling/coaching.
The Bears never seem to be able to put those four pieces together. We are lucky to get one.
And all fans were asking for was at least to see a tiny bit of improvement. Something. Just throw us a bone here. Anything. But the team was not ready to play. The team quit too (that was really really hard to watch). So much for the vaunted H.I.T.S. thing Eberflus brought here. Green Bay showcased hustle and definitely out-physical'd our players. They were smiling and laughing and just celebrating how the new guy - Jordan Love - now "ownes" us too. Pitiful stuff.
The last 4 minutes were really hard to watch.
In the stands everyone starting heading for the exits way way early. I left early in the 4th Q and that's something I never do.
It's opening day of the "new era" season (Bears own tweet) vs your key divisional rival and your home fans boo you loudly and walk out starting in the late 3rd Q. Don't know if you could hear or see on TV. I imagine they hide that stuff from the broadcast.
Think about that. Take a moment to let that sink in. Its beyond pathetic.

I started hearing boo's around halfway through the 1st Q. Every failed 3rd convert or a stupid fool no-one screen a few boo birds could be heard as well.

The boos in the 1st quarter were obvious on TV too.
