It is not just that he brought in not enough offense, the defense is also not much better than last year, if this game is any indication. The Bears remain weak in the trenches on both sides of the ball. This is all very disheartening.
That's a good point, David. The team they put on the field today was embarrassing to watch - the team was not ready to play today. Period. Out-coached, out-played, out-classed, out-hustled (our guys quit).
Bears are that bad. They needed to overhaul the OL, and didn't. They needed to overhaul the WR's; they didn't. All that mattered was getting the O working, and they were spent most of the 2 offseasons trying to fix the Def; and failed at it.
McCaskey's hired wrong again leading to Poles hiring wrong again, leading to bad FA and drafts, leaving the best rookie qb option they have had to date flopping in the wind. Fields, like Mitch might not be good enough, might never have been, but they were never given any chances either. Need an OL to protect first, then 2 legit receiving threats, then a legit run game that can act as a safety valve on passing plays.
The Bears have had that 2 times since 2000. Once with Cutler, Marshal Jeffery Forte and Bennett. And then the 2nd year w/Mitch w/Robinson, Gabriel, Burton Cohen. Neither team actually had high quality OL though. They at least tried to build options(plural) for the qb; but w/out quality OL's it doesn't matter.

That is a huge point. This def does not look improved. Last years big FA day 1 move, DL that didn't pass his physical, lost out on WR's and OL he could have got day 1, and all for nothing. 2 DB's in round 2 as if the team didn't need WR and OL help. Traded a 1st rd for a scrub another team was trying to offload after drafting his replacement in the 2nd round. This year, top FA moves were LB's, drafted a RT in round one instead of a LT and make the OT's battle for LT/RT, then went Def/Def/Def. I know I know, they got a #1 WR that counts in the draft. No, no it doesn't, he's not a rookie, he's not on a rookie deal, it's a trade; something they had to do b/c Claypool is a bust, great view of it today so much for he just needs an offseason(hint he had several in Pitt and they wanted him gone).
The Def should have made a huge jump at the expense of the O, and just like the O, it made no movement at all. 3rd and long was just as easy as it always is. Big explosive plays, still happening a plenty. No turnovers, no ballhawks. Plenty of dumb penalties. So now we get to not know what Fields is, or could have been, and the def still sucks.

All true. The only positive thing is that it’s only the first game and there were no major injuries.
I am not believing the 2023 Bears won’t end the season better than the 2022 Bears. If not, firings are in order.

The McCaskey’s need to fire themselves if this team is worse than last year..and that’s really hard to do when you only won 3 games.
Too much faults, penalties... I still think the team has potential, BUT if we dont correct these incomprehensible faults from yesterday, we will have the potential for total disaster.
What a miserable day for me. Both the Bears and Seahawks were whipped, and I really thought both should win their games.
I am now asking myself….
1. Are the Packers REALLY that good? 2. Are the Bears REALLY that bad?
Some teams just seem to have the whammy on others. I watch the Browns thrash Joe Burrow and the Bengals. The Bengals are not that bad….maybe the Bears aren’t, either. (Desperately clinging to a straw perhaps.)
1. no, not really. We just make them look good.
2. Apparently, yes.
I was just watching “Get Up” with Rex Ryan, etc. on ESPN. They were trashing all the Bears coaches. They noted that the last time the Bears beat the Packers twice in a season was with Jim Harbaugh at QB in 1991. That was the year before Favre arrived, and, as they say, “the rest is history.” We are now at 32 years in that streak with no end in sight.

I honestly didn't realize it was that long ago. Damn I hate this team more and more everyday. But at least our QB got Loves Mom better seats yesterday....
