You just named 4 guys on offense to replace. So those wouldn’t be indefensible draft picks in 2024. But you didn’t really answer my question. If Poles did that, would that be enough to redeem him in your eyes?
Depends on what he did in FA, but you cannot fix next year what you lost in the last two while Fields was still developing. He's gone out of his way to stunt Fields imo. I don't believe he's ever going to fully commit to this O b/c I have yet to see him even try to build it. FA/Draft have largely been centered around the def, and i have no reason to think he'll do anything different in the future.
I see. He can’t change the past, but would those 4 picks plus one or two $20M free agents be enough to satisfy you? That should give Fields a very strong supporting cast, unless Poles is utterly incompetent.
it is not all on Poles. I wanted Brian Daboll as head coach instead of Eberflus. If you hire a defensive coach, what should you expect?

Personally, whether it is an O or D head coach, I expect that if you hire a new head coach, andalso a new GM (both hired at the same time as rookies at their jobs) then you'd better strap in because they will make a number of mistakes. There is a steep learning curve. Even if just one of those jobs had been filled by a first-time rookie, well, that would be significant. If both of those key positions on an NFL team are rookies learning "on the job" then that's a very steep hill to climb. It doesn't mean they can't be good here. It just means that we'd better be realistic about the fact that mistakes will be made. Even veteran GM's and HC's make their share of mistakes. The key is to watch and see if they "learn" from their mistakes - and - to see if they can climb that learning curve while making a relatively small percentage of them.

No idea, b/c Fields might not be the qb if he doesn't look like it, might be a new qb. And ya he better surround that one w/more picks and FA. Doesn't have to be the first 4, that's silly. but again better be 2-2, 3-1. And ya FA needs see some O love.
Its why I haven't been happy, nor willing to give Poles any slack. First thing he did was a terrible mistake in his HC hire. You have a qb on a rookie deal and you hire a Def HC that is going to want to center the rebuild around his side of the ball.
Cannot have it w/an unestablished QB w/next to zero, if any at all, talent around him.
Who exactly were you gonna draft? Remember both DJ Moore and Wright were 1st-round-equivalent acquisitions.
Were you gonna draft another WR in rd 2 after adding Moore & Claypool which already cost in effect a 1st and a 2nd? Were you gonna draft a TE in a weak TE class with your #1 being young and up for an extension? Were you gonna draft a RB when you already had Herbert & Foreman and good RBs being available on Day 3?
So what then?
Im guessing G or C on day 2? And now it sounds like a good idea to me too
Yeah, Tippman was the guy I wanted there but he went early-2nd and out of reach for us. John Michael Schmidt went late-2nd IIRC but wasn't quite as good a scheme fit as he wasn't as mobile.
So the question remains--what offensive player would you have drafted instead of Dexter/Stevenson/Pickens?

Funny thing is, the guys I talk to the most (my brothers, uncles, friends) that are currently complaining about the OFF will begin to complain about the DEF if the DEF is bad again. "This is the Bears, we invented DEF!! Derp! Derp! Run the ball and play DEF! Win SBs!!!!"

LOL, exactly
In 2024, barring a Fields meltdown this year, it's a pretty safe bet the Bears will drafting an Edge Rusher/DE in round 1. It's a high impact key position the team doesn't have an impact player at right now. Will people be screaming about that? Probably
Point is, unlike last year, Fields has enough around him offensively this season to permit a proper evaluation. It would be nice if Tevin glass Jenkins could get his ass out on the field more consistently but he has adequate weapons and OLs. It's put up or shut up time for JF1 coming here very soon.
4000 total yards combined rushing and passing. That's easily doable as a fair objective.

I know. I do get frustrated with that stuff. Elite teams need to be decent on BOTH offense AND defense. Sure, one unit will be better than the other. But you can't suck on one of the two and expect to win a championship.
Name me the team that wouldn't have concerns on their o-line if two of their starters were hurt?
Its not 1 WR...its really 3 when you add in Scott and consider Mooney coming back. 4 when you consider Claypool has a full off season in the system.
FIELDS talents says he won't throw the ball 700 times. FIELDS. Maybe its you who needs to understand and get things...cause what YOU think they should do doesn't jive with what Fields talent says they should do.
Claypool, well we got to see the reason Pitt sent him packing for a rookie. Mooney isn't anything special, he's just a dude. Scott's a rookie, mid round, expecting him to do anything is unfair.
Name me a team that would go into a season w/a starting OL that had spent his first 3 years constantly hurt. Chicago?
Fields if surrounded by a talent like KC, Buff, Ciny could throw as often as needed and succeed. Surrounded by mid while the team tries to rebuild a def cannot.
If the team feels like you do, then we won't have to worry about this b/c he'll be sent off as they draft another qb next year. And seriously, who's talking 700? 6 qb's were there or even close to 700. Feel free to get to the middle and not laughly behind even the group that is just in front of you in dead last. Lets work at getting to 500-550 range.
Of course that means more then 1-2 draft picks in the first 4. So far it's 3 to 5 in favor of the def. Oh and in FA? last years big sign, big fail, def which prevented them from looking for O. This year, big signs 2 lb's, preventing them from going O. Then they doubled down on the def in the draft too.
Fucking embarrassing for Fields. Entire gawdamned O is scraps while Poles and Flus pretend it's 20yrs ago.
We've been over this a hundred times...you keep repeating the same things and never acknowledge the facts others bring up. Signing the linebackers didn't prevent them from signing ANYONE on EITHER SIDE of the ball. They had a crap ton of cap space. I know this is the hill you want to die on...but my goodness dude.
He spent his #1 draft pick on a right tackle. Suppose he spends his first four picks in 2024 on offense. Would that be enough, or do you want more?
It's not the pick or the specific round, it's the # as a whole over the last 2 years. The team wasn't a OT away, nor a WR away. He's found a way to center early FA on Def both years, and early in the draft both years, losing those years to build around his qb.
By all accounts the def and O will still both suck this year, so I doubt, nor do I think any team would go first 4 on any group. But at this point 2-2, 3-1 might be necessary on the O. Kmet hasn't exactly shined, Jenkins cannot stay healthy, Whitehair might not be back, Mooney/Claypool might not be back, and they might need a new QB.
Might have Mooney's replacement on the roster, but you don't have anything for Kmet/Claypool/Jenkins or Whitehair. But hey, we got some shiny toys for the hc's defense.
Kmet just signed an extension...he's not getting replaced. And correct me if I'm wrong...but there will be a draft and free agency next year...right?
We've all (myself included) gotten WAY off-topic in this thread. Mooney was not traded. So there's nothing to add to the topic. So I'm going to lock it so we don't go on and on forever. Hang in there everyone... next Sunday we have real football again.
