Is there anyone hoping to have an Offense as good as any of those 3, or are we hoping the idea was/is to build to something more along the lines of Buff/Cincy/KC, maybe SF?
The idea is to build as good an offense as you possibly can. Don't know what you mean there. Again, this is a work in progress.
Does anyone really think we'd have a "complete roster" just one offseason after a total nuking?
Fields needs to prove himself as a passer this year. If he flops badly (a la Trubisky 2019), then I hope Poles has the courage to move on next spring. Fields wasn't drafted by the current regime. We will have 2 1st round picks and likely two HIGH 1st rounders.
Obviously, I really hope that isn't necessary. Be a way faster rebuild if Fields takes a major step this year. If he does, you go ALL IN next offseason to set up some SB runs.
Well to build one as good as you can, they'd have to actually put draft picks and FA money into it and not the def.
Yes he does, and the fact they gave him a 1 a 3 and a 4 and a very iffy TE, and an even iffier OL makes that rather difficult.
No one wants that, but the GM has set the team in a way that allows it to be a possibility, and it pisses me off.

He spent his #1 draft pick on a right tackle. Suppose he spends his first four picks in 2024 on offense. Would that be enough, or do you want more?

Who exactly were you gonna draft? Remember both DJ Moore and Wright were 1st-round-equivalent acquisitions.
Were you gonna draft another WR in rd 2 after adding Moore & Claypool which already cost in effect a 1st and a 2nd? Were you gonna draft a TE in a weak TE class with your #1 being young and up for an extension? Were you gonna draft a RB when you already had Herbert & Foreman and good RBs being available on Day 3?

So what then?
Im guessing G or C on day 2? And now it sounds like a good idea to me too
LOL - The season needs to begin because we've beaten every horse deader than a door-nail by now :-)
We all have our positions on the off season moves. Nobody is gonna change anyone's mind on this stuff. We just need to roll out the regular season and see what happens now. There's not much else to talk about these last few days before the season opener. We're just re-hashing the same old stuff.

It's not the pick or the specific round, it's the # as a whole over the last 2 years. The team wasn't a OT away, nor a WR away. He's found a way to center early FA on Def both years, and early in the draft both years, losing those years to build around his qb.
By all accounts the def and O will still both suck this year, so I doubt, nor do I think any team would go first 4 on any group. But at this point 2-2, 3-1 might be necessary on the O. Kmet hasn't exactly shined, Jenkins cannot stay healthy, Whitehair might not be back, Mooney/Claypool might not be back, and they might need a new QB.
Might have Mooney's replacement on the roster, but you don't have anything for Kmet/Claypool/Jenkins or Whitehair. But hey, we got some shiny toys for the hc's defense.

You just named 4 guys on offense to replace. So those wouldn’t be indefensible draft picks in 2024. But you didn’t really answer my question. If Poles did that, would that be enough to redeem him in your eyes?

Depends on what he did in FA, but you cannot fix next year what you lost in the last two while Fields was still developing. He's gone out of his way to stunt Fields imo. I don't believe he's ever going to fully commit to this O b/c I have yet to see him even try to build it. FA/Draft have largely been centered around the def, and i have no reason to think he'll do anything different in the future.

Don't start thinking logically about this stuff! you'll take all the fun out of it.
Maybe I've opened a bottle of double-oaked, barrel proof Kool-Aid too early but I am still pretty hopeful about the season. But, the first 3 - 5 games will be crucial to see what we've really got.
Make a bowl of popcorn, open a cool one and sit back and watch it unfold.

I see. He can’t change the past, but would those 4 picks plus one or two $20M free agents be enough to satisfy you? That should give Fields a very strong supporting cast, unless Poles is utterly incompetent.
