I think the plan is to replace Mooney with Scott. I like it.
That's not a plan for THIS SEASON, no way. Scott has had plenty of issues with drops and fumbles in TC and PS.
Scott is a big downgrade from Mooney right now.
That all depends on what they get.
Unfortunstely this is the ugly reality of rookie contracts. When a player nears the end of their rookie contract, the calculus gets pretty cold and ruthless.
Not defending it or liking it. Just describing it.

He had no problem catching all the kicks in the Bills game. He’s got the job. I am not worried about that, and I don’t think Flus is, either. The idea is to be Super Bowl ready by 2025. I want him to get lots of game experience this year to be fully ready to take over the job from Mooney in 2024. I don’t care so much about 2023. It’s already been declared year-2 in a 4-yr. schedule for Poles to dig himself out of his hole, if I am following you and JABF correctly. I am focused on Scott as slot receiver on the SB ready team, and Poles will give Mooney the Roquan Smith treatment after this season. He will be gone, unless he has a phenomenal season this year, and now that Moore is here, I can’t imagine that happening. Trading Mooney now is not a bad idea, if we can get decent value for him, and Poles may be exploring that possibility.

Weren't you screaming for JSN in the draft?
Bears finally have put together a solid top-3 in the WR room and you want to trade Mooney now for a pittance? (at best you'd get a 4th)
Behind him, we have only a Day 3 rookie with stone hands and Velus.
No way, hard pass for me. This year is about giving Fields the best you can to evaluate him fairly. Not a time to cheap out.
It makes no sense to trade Mooney just before the start of the season you need to make a decision on Fields.
Sorry, I call BS here
Team has already made a decision on Fields, you don't need to have other WR's to run and hand off the ball and throw to Moore.
Aren't you always complaining the Bears "ignore the offense"? So you want them now to trade away their #2 WR?
Ooooookkkkaayyyyyyyy
EDIT: And no "decision" has been made on Fields until money changes hands on a new contract. Nothing is irreversible at this point and we have 2 FRPs next draft.

Yes they ignore the offense, and if they trade Mooney it will be another example of it. They don't want a modern O, pass first O, they want a 1980's run first O w/a power def.
Dude, they let him throw 9 passes this pre season. 9, how many were screens? Yes they made a decision, is it irreversible; no, never said it was, but they also aren't going to give him a chance to excel in the pass game b/c it's going to be largely a run first and 2nd O.

A bit of a cross-post with the Gipson wanting a trade thread. In the Poles/Cunningham press conference from earlier today, Poles was very clear that Mooney was never discussed with anyone as a possible trade. Along with that Gipson never brought up wanting to seek a trade to further his career.
This off-season has really gotten to me with all the crazy s**t that the media seems to dream put just to have something to talk about. Or maybe it is just the media picking up stupid stuff that some Bozo posts on social media and runs with it.

The Mooney stuff was pure crap and I didn't believe it at the time. Made zero sense. Poles said it was a false report.
The Gipson thing was not that he asked for a trade but that the team, knowing they weren't going to keep him, allowed his agent to seek one with a 3-4 team Gipson preferred. It was just mis-communicated and mis-reported like many things are.
No one traded for or claimed him so obviously there was no market there.

My guess is that a lot of this is now AI generated media; that then gets picked up by social media, that is then picked up by actual media. Its happening in a lot of other journalism/writing spheres of influence, no reason to think it's not happening in sports also.
Even before AI, there was a lot of dart throwing and spit balling in sports media. Look this team is looking to trade/cut this player, this team needs that position it's a good fit, lets report they are interested seeing as they should be type shit happened a lot. It's only going to get worse w/AI.
But this coach has shown he has next to no interest in throwing the ball, so it's not a surprise someone threw it out there that they were interested in trading a WR they likely have no interest in re signing next year as they already likely drafted his replacement.
