I'm glad Poles cut Walker. He was awful. Shows me that if you don't perform you're out regardless of pay. Kinda surprised on Leatherwood as we are awfully thin at G now and by all accounts he had a good camp. Also saw we waved Huoy who was carted off last game.
Maybe they bring Leatherwood back on practice squad. Hoping he gets lost in the crowd. Nice to see PJ dealt with so quickly. If yall remember Bageant was my sleeper pick in draft. Might be next Brock Purdy. Hopefully Fields improves his passing game or we might see Fields in a battle next year.

I'm a little surprised tbh. Bagent is the clear backup, I think we can all agree. But I'd still rather have PJ Walker as third string than Peterman. And w/ the way our OL is playing we need to keep 3 QBs on the roster. Fields will go down w/ an injury sooner or later.
Leatherwood is no surprise, but — like butkus — I’m a little surprised about Walker. Good to see that Poles is willing to admit his mistakes and cut his losses on these guys.
PJ Walker & Leatherwood were minimal, cheap "mistakes". I really hope we aren't gonna be calling Nate Davis that word this season since he wasn't cheap and has played and practiced way, way less than Leatherwood did.
I've been of the opinion for some time that there is a real story behind what is going on with Davis. I don't know if we will ever know what was/is going on.
As far as Leatherwood goes, the following YT video really sums up my feelings. He is (and always was) a project as an NFL lineman. He was never suited to play OT in the NFL and needs a ton of work as far as technique goes (especially in pass blocking). He could develop into a workable 2nd team LG/RG. But that's about it. It will all depend on Leatherwood's personal discipline and commitment to his craft. The author of the clip makes a great point that is basically "some things just aren't fixable".

My gut feeling is that the Bears already know an OL or even two, who they will claim on waivers. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but that's my gut feeling right now.

Whatever it is, they aren't telling us and it isn't some muscle strain they're just being cautious with.
Lot of rumors that Vrabel hated him in Tennessee and he was not the hardest worker there. I'm getting the sneaking suspicion we got snookered there into believing we were getting a top-notch FA who was "clean" but he's actually one of those guys who will be a PITA now that he's been paid.
Really hope I'm wrong but early signs aren't good. The guy never showed up to voluntary OTAs (not a good look for someone who just signed a big contract) and has barely practiced since.

I watched the Bills game. The problem I see with our secondary is that most of them are playing too soft. They sit back and let the WR catch the ball and then try to tackle. Seahawks are trained to CONTEST THE CATCH. Stevenson and Ojemudia were the only guys doing that. Stevenson got burned for a TD, but I still like to see aggressive efforts. I hope Ojemudia does not get cut.
I really like T. Lewis. He didn’t get a sack in this game, partly because they were holding on him at least twice I saw. But he does get consistent penetration into the backfield, showing both speed and power. If he gets cut, I will be pissed.
I was not impressed by Billings on the inside. He was getting pushed around too much on the short yardage plays.

I know you can't accurately predict much from preseason, but it sure looks to me like the Bears are much better talent-wise than last season - but - they have a long ways to go to get that roster where it needs to be. I'm thinking 7 or 8 wins. And if the OL sucks again, then they won't even reach that.
My guess is that this happens if the Bears deal him to get Chris Jones from KC. As much as I like Mooney, a good trade would maybe make sense. Mooney is in his last year of his contract. He is so replaceable next season (Mooney is a 5th round pick). I get it. The Bears have had so much crap at WR that Mooney looks like a superstar to us. He's not.
