I've got to believe it will be PJ Walker after Fields is pulled Saturday. They have to see if he can handle the QB2 job or not. If they hope to stash Tyson Bagent on the practice squad, I wonder if they will play him much tomorrow... but then again I think that "cat is out of the bag" and the NFL knows he can play well. I get a bit frustrated when I read some folks saying that say the Bears can "probably" get Bagent on the practice squad. And he "probably" won't get signed off the PS by another team later. If the Bears think they have something special in this QB, then "probably" isn't something I'd gamble on losing the guy. On the Bears we have seen how hard it can be to get a reliable backup who can win games for you. Some teams have that kind of guy at QB2. Others' seasons are in the crapper when they go to their QB2. If Bagent is good then pull out the stops to protect your player and keep him. JMO.
Peterman/Walker (to me) are the same level of QB. Maybe you pick one of the 2 and keep that guy... but then at least keep Bagent on the 53 roster. But to be honest, if Walker looks bad in this final game, then I'm cutting that guy. I don't see how we can do any worse with Bagent than with what we are seeing in Walker.
Peterman is just a journeyman "nothing burger" guy. Nothing to see there.
I don't care if he's raw, he is better than our #2 and #3. He will not stick on the PS, he will be claimed by another team. I don't care about PJ's contract, cut him and eat the lost money, make Bagent #2 and put Peterman as #3. Anything else is . . . .

I think this will show us who Poles is. Is he willing to admit the mistake of Walker signing and keep Bagent? I think he will go with the talent he sees and Bagent becomes qb2. Keep Walker if must, but by performance Peterman is better.

I can’t see Walker getting cut even if he stinks again Vs. Bills. Poles is paying him $2 million guaranteed. That would look bad, and GMs don’t like to look bad.

This really will show if Poles puts the team above his ego if Walker stinks again and is kept instead of Bagent.

You may be right. And we are not GMs or coaches... maybe they still see something in keeping Walker that us fans do not see.
But even if Walker does get cut, I'm fine with the Bears thinking on this when they signed him. It made sense at the time. If Bagent truly is a solid QB from this tiny school from nowhere... well, nobody could see that coming. It's like getting the winning lottery ticket (probably NOT going to happen).
I know that even the best of the best GMs make a percentage of mistakes. Nobody bats .1000 on these personnel things. My hope is that Poles is willing to admit mistakes and move on. Mistakes happen. And just to be clear, I am fine keeping one of the two vet QBs. As excited as I am about Bagent, he probably isn't a QB2 this year. But next year maybe he could be. The $2 mil for Walker is not a huge deal. If that's the worst mistake Poles makes this year then he is having a great year. Stuff happens.

I agree with Bears40 that, if Walker plays badly again and does get cut, that will say something about Poles willingness to cut losses and move on. More often GMs will carry on hoping for a turnaround to vindicate his decision.
$2 million is not a lot of money in some contexts, but it is for a practice squad player.

The Bears can carry Bagent and Walker at the beginning of the season if they feel queasy about only having some small school UDFA rookie at the #2. Cut him later if they want.
