Apparently Nate Davis had work ethic & motivational issues

Sounds like a bad fit here.  He's basically un-cuttable for two years.  $20-mil guaranteed contract.  Dead cap hit of over $17-million dollars if he's cut now.  He sounds like one of those guys who gets his big 2nd contract money and then loafs.  You really hate to see that.  

I often think that teams that allow these guys to leave in FA, have a reason for doing so.  They don't feel that they are worth the money to retain them.  Looks like the Titans dodged a bullet here and it hit the Bears between the eyes.

Maybe this is as simple as more being expected of him here than in TEN and Davis wasn't prepared for it, was caught off guard. Now that it's been made very clear what the expectations are, maybe Davis will adjust and practice/play up to the new standards. Him coming back and ramping up is hopefully evidence of this starting to happen. Pace/Flus were able to work through issues and differences of opinion with Jenkins last year. Not the same situation, but an example of how the Bears' leadership team has found a way to get through to a player who wasn't buying in for the good of the team. Hopefully Davis buys in as Jenkins eventually did and shows similar maturity.

On the CHGO podcast and on Hoge and Jahns, Hoge mentioned that Davis has some personal things going on and that he understood his absence from practices a bit more. Kind of vague...but I think if it were actually a work ethic thing, Hoge would just say that. I'd also think that Demarcus Walker would have given some insight to Davis when they were signing them...but who knows.
