We've gone through the off-season, draft, FA, and training camp has ended. We've watched all but the last preseason game. At this point, what's your take on the team this year? I am REALLY curious to see what everyone is thinking as we get ready for the Green Bay Packers in our season opener in three more weeks.
One thought that comes to my mind is that if Fields misses games this year they are losses if PJ is our QB. The guy is just flat bad. Our defense is not going to be able to carry the team with Fields out. The offense is dead-on-arrival with PJ at QB. I understand why the Bears thought he'd be a good fit here with this offense. But he isn't the guy we need as a backup.
I have often heard people saying that if your starting QB is injured you are screwed anyway. But that is not true. We have watched teams win super bowls with their QB2. The backup QB is especially meaningful nowadays with the way QBs drop like flies to injuries every year.
We do have more WR talent than I can ever remember on the Bears... at least in recent years. There are some quality depth players there too. The RB's look solid.
I don't know what to expect with our pass rush this year - and even our run stopping has been hit and miss (I did expect the run D to be better that what we have seen).

Unless Velus Jones was held out due to injury (which I doubt), I think he will make the 53 man roster. It looks to me that the vast majority of inactive players in yesterday's game we those who didn't need any additional evaluation or reps.

Yeah, I think you're right. I can't wait to see the starters - all of the starters healthy - playing in that Green Bay game. I thought last night's game was pretty ugly. A lot of "camp bodies" that need to get on a plane and go home now.

+1
I've been hoping that a lot of the probable starters who've been held out due to some sort of minor, soft tissue injury have been basically stored in bubble wrap in preparation for that opening game.
Right now I don’t know what to expect from this team. I haven’t seen enough to truly believe they’re a 500 team or better. What we need to know more than anything else is understanding whether or not Fields is our future qb1. We need a couple more oline players but other than that, we should be seeing a significant improvement in Fields or we move on.
How do the starters on offense look? That first week is coming quick, I can’t wait!
We haven't seen much of the starters on offense in the preseason games. The major blow today was learning that LG Teven Jenkins is out for 6 weeks or so with strained calves (both legs). We have heard that means our C, Whitehair will be bounced over to LG and Patrick (who has been out with injury all summer camp) will be C now. Patrick has been relly bad since we signed him, so that's bad news. If the OL is struggling then the offense will struggle - again.
The "playing the odds game and pretending I'm making actual predictions" prediction:
Injuries expose the lack of depth, key starters going down impacts both sides of the ball, rookies hit the wall, Bears stumble to a 6-11 record. Players who have both been injured in the past and never been injured will be injured. My call here allows me to claim expert status and that I know football better than anyone else.
The "Every move Poles has made will backfire prediction" prediction:
Players signed and traded for will bomb, the rookies won't measure up, players they didn't draft/sign/trade-for all become AP and PBs. Bears go 0-6 in the division and they should fire everyone, trade everyone and start over. 4-13 record. Despite this claim I refuse to actually name names or go into specifics, it should be obvious that everyone knows who/what I am talking about and I reject everything that does work as something I didn't call and everything that fails as a "prediction." I will post #nailedit in every post I make complaining about the team and players.
The "I have hope prediction" prediction:
Fields gets to 4000 combined running and passing with 30TDs while throwing less than 12 INTs. The DEF keeps the running game under 100yards against while the OFF averages 22 points a game. 9-8 record and lose 3rd wildcard slot on the last weekend of the season.
Patrick taking on Wyatt and Kenny Clark will be tough. I always thought Patrick held his own pass blocking. It was more getting push in the running game that he struggled. He’ll need some help week one
