Never trade for a running back. Always draft them mid round. Running backs have no shelf life.
I figure every team has limited resources for building a roster. I respect how Poles is being more careful with our draft assets and cap dollars. It frustrated me when past GMs dealt away draft picks and overspent cap money... eventually it killed our roster talent and brought the team to the point that it was in cap-hell and we had pitiful talent. We were a joke of a team.
It may seem "like no big deal" to spend resources on a RB that we just don't need right now. But it is a big deal. These type moves slowly but surely weaken the OVERALL talent level of your team. Like I said, I'd crap if we invested anything in an RB we don't need right now. Invest in REAL needs that we DO have right now.

I think Poles' acquisition of Roschon Johnson is a perfect example of what both of you are talking about. Assuming he works out as a significant contributor at RB, we get a solid RB room at a relatively modest investment.

Exactly. I like our entire RB room right now. Love it. Invest remaining resources in areas of greatest need.

Honestly, unless there is a steal of a deal with another position. I'm all for Poles holding onto his resources until next year. I'm not expecting a 12-5 team this year. 9-7 at best. Next year should be our year. Just build and develop for this year.

Exactly this ^^^
Poles has made it clear he's being patient and building for the long run. That's the advantage of not clinging on to a failing regime (remember "good collaboration"?) who are frantically trying to save their jobs with short-term band-aids.
He knows the Bears aren't ready to be a serious contender yet so he isn't gonna blow cap space and/or draft picks frivolously. He hasn't even extended Mooney or JJ yet and may make them prove it again this season before he makes a real offer. We are gonna need more DL help (almost certainly at edge), a Center, and maybe help at WR too next spring. The last thing we need is a RB. We already have a good, young RB room.
