I never thought I'd say this. But my gut feeling is that Arlington Heights has crapped the bed for good. I'll bet the Bears are not going to land there. Sounds like they will get a huge footprint inside the City of Chicago... their own place that they will own. Look for them to sell the AH property. SHM at government killing the goose that could have laid the golden eggs in Arlington Heights - taxes, jobs and some exciting new business investments. They got just a bit too greedy over the taxes. They could have thrown the Bears a bit of a tax bone and got a deal done. Looks like the Bears will end up with a better property and a better deal now. Arlington Heights? Watch the government finger pointing begin there.

The Chicago Bears are operating under a different paradigm.
"Warren has made it clear from the start that he will always think big for his franchise. Moving to Arlington Heights was a nice idea, but imagine the pageantry involved if he could wrangle a new stadium inside the city limits free of the Chicago Park District’s control. It would be a coup for the organization and a gigantic political victory for Mayor Johnson. He’d be viewed as the man who saved Bears football in Chicago."

The more I see of Warren, the better I like him. He strikes me as politically adept, a smooth talker and. most importantly, the prey drive of a Kodiak Bear.
I know I sound like a broken record, but I really wish the McCaskeys held off until they had him as their chief exec of football before starting the stadium effort. Even if it meant canning Ted Philips when they got rid of Pace, Nagey, etc.
But a bit of defense for the Arlington Heights village government. This doesn't make the news, but there is something of a groundswell NIMBY movement going on in Arlington Heights as a backlash to the stadium deal. I'm a participant in the local Nextdoor groups and people have been actively circulating recall petitions for the mayor and the entire village board. I suspect that some of this stuff is posturing to affect these movements.

That's good to know about the NIMBY's. The heck of it is, the McCaskeys can sell that land to someone 1,000 times worse than what the Bears would have brought to the city - a modern state-of-the-art entertainment and high-end sports campus. And it sounds like the old racetrack infrastructure was badly deteriorating anyway.

If we go with the Arlington Park land, I'll dig up some more info, history, etc on it. The northwest 30%- 40% of the property (south of US14 or NW Highway and east of IL53 or the expressway) was for stables, veterinary, some offices and a lot of housing for the stable staff. I used to go to the gym with a couple of AH cops and they had some really nasty stories on what went on there.
So, these folks who go all NIMBY about the Bears moving there have conveniently (hypocritically ??) ignored what was going on there for 50+ years.

That is usually how it goes.
What someone originally finds appealing. They slowly sours on the very thing that allured them to it in the first place. We are a flawed species. Never happy until it is too late LOL.
