I was just listening to Dave Wannstedt. He is 100% on the Lions bandwagon.
Bears may need one more year to get the defensive line fixed before we can beat them. Then Super Bowl ready by 2025.
I continue to see this roster as you do, David, in that 2024 is needed to get the talent where it ultimately needs to be. Obviously, no team goes from "last in the NFL talent" to being Super Bowl ready - overnight. The DLine should be better against the run this year. Edge rusher upgrades will come in '24, along with other upgrades to the talent.
We had 10 drafted in '22, 11 more in '22 - and 10 more coming in '24. That's 31 players in 36 months. Then we have other significant upgrades outside of the draft (some of which have been huge, like the D.J. Moore acquisition).
The first round draft picks in 2024 should be defensive line like Eagles this year. In fact, I’d make the front-7 the focus, depending on how these guys perform this year.
Moore was not acquired outside the draft. Poles traded #1 draft pick in that deal. I would have preferred Hopkins and done the colts trade to get Anderson/Carter, but that is water under the bridge.
I personally love hearing what people who are fans of opposing teams think because they can be more objective but often less knowledgeable:
And the fans of opposing teams can be the other way too - less objective but more knowledgeable when it comes to their own team. Often these fans can be overly critical of their own team. The blogger seemed like a really good guy trying to best to give his take on the Bears for the upcoming season. But I was thinking to myself that his comments were probably as accurate as mine would be, if I tried to do a podcast on the Packers team for 2023. If I did that it wouldn't be very accurate regarding some stuff. LOL, and maybe I would whiff on all of it.
Regarding the NFCN this upcoming season, I think it's kind of up in the air as far as how good or bad they will be. Any of the four teams could surprise us. And the wildcard in all of this is the injury level to these teams. That's a real game changer. It could (could, not saying it will) kill any of these teams' season. I think we all just need to let the season unfold and watch what happens. Rodgers would tell us R.E.L.A.X.
We're a quarterback injury away from the top pick in the draft lol... Also I think some on here focused on his criticism and missed the parts where he said he overall liked the Bears off season and said they were going about the rebuild in the right way.
We've added a ton of new people over the last two drafts. And the last 9 or 10 months have seen an incredible amount of change. So, there is no way to apply any sort of metrics or other analytical tool that can use any sort of past performance to help predict the future.
I think one of the things that confounds most if not all the talking heads is the NFCN will likely end up as a four-team bunch as far as W-L records go and there could be as little as 2 or 3 wins separating the top from the bottom of the division.
As optimistic as I am, I understand that we won't know what we have until halfway through the upcoming season.
You are right. It is all just speculation until we get into the regular season. But here goes…
I agree with Herman that the worst part of the Bears 2023 roster will be the defensive line. I am not worried at all about the offense, and agree with JABF and butkus that he is is underestimating the Bears running game as well as the passing game with the additions there plus Fields development. I am confident that the Bears running game will be at or near the top in the NFL.
I think the NFCN will be between the Bears and Lions, and give the edge to the Lions. I agree with you that it will not be by a wide margin. If our defensive line is better than expected, it is even possible we can beat the Lions. But that is a big IF!
A Packers fan and a Vikings fan could make the case that they should win the division. Literally this division is a roll of the dice. I could see the unexpected where one of these teams gets to 11 wins and I could also see a situation where one of these teams gets 3 wins and people get fired.

Would you concede that the Bears and Lions have done MUCH more than Packers and Vikings to improve since last season? We have two NFCN teams ascending and two declining. If not in 2023, by 2024 this is a two-horse race.

Well yeah, they have. Here's my synopsis: The Lions: division favorites. Vikings: On the decline. Bears: Doing some really nice things and rebuilding in the right way. But having the best off season in the division doesn't mean division winners. A penny stock that goes from .08 cents to .16 cents is twice as valuable but that doesn't make it APL stock. Worst team in the league last year(yes I'm aware they tanked but it is what it is). What they do will depend on these nice draft picks developing and the quarterback taking the next step. I like the route they took by shedding aging expensive players and collecting draft capitol. Let's see how that talent develops. Packers: 1. They lost nothing in terms of talent besides Rodgers. They didn't sign anyone in FA because they took Rodgers entire hit this year and couldn't. But it was actually a nice off season because they found someone to take on Rodgers contract and will be in great cap space moving forward. They got a nice haul for Rodgers re draft capitol. 2. They got rid of old aging talent at skill positions that couldn't generate big plays and filled it with high RAS draft picks the past two seasons. The Packers fate relies on those players developing along with... 3. Jordan Love: If you put a gun to my head and made me tell you what he will be I couldn't. He has the talent to be the next in line of great Packers QB's. He also could be a bust and leaving the Packers looking for a quarterback next season. I truly don't know. 4. Most of the Packers good young talent is under age 26. They will be probably top five youngest teams in the league once rosters are set. If the young talent develops they will be a playoff team. If not, well... But to your point I can see a situation where GB finishes last and another where they finish first. NFL talking heads who dismiss the Packers are not knowledgeable to the situation. GB is attempting to do a short rebuild with hopes of a super bowl window opening again in 24' if it works out the way they hope.
