You don't know what to believe or not believe about him right now. He did have multiple injuries so maybe he really is trying to get completely healthy for TC. Common sense says he is going to give his best effort this year due to it being a contract season - and arguably the most important contract in his career coming up. Whether he stays with the Bears or goes elsewhere, he will be giving it max effort due to his NFL future hanging in the balance here.
In light of all that, maybe this is just a simple case of the guy wanting to make dead-certain his body is 100% so he's not playing with nagging injuries, looking like crap in a contract year.
I have read a number of comments/posts that this is a slow time of the year for the podcast people and sports talking heads. I'm wary of anything they put out right now. It may not be true.

Fields and Moore are getting in sync fine, but Mooney andClaypool are missing valuable time in minicamp. Flus even talked about it in his press conference. These guys need to really get to work in training camp to catch up.

It sounds like Mooney had a long ways to go in rehabbing his surgically repaired ankle. I wonder if he will be the same guy this season, or just not quite 100% - or worse.

Mooney is a bit of a question mark...and he may start out a little slow, but he should be fine. He doesn't need to be out there right now, he needs to make sure he's full go for training camp.

Mooney needs to make sure he's fully healthy and in shape so that he doesn't end up with a soft tissue issue. Him not being at OTA's or mini-camp is not a big deal at all. He needs to make sure he's full go for training camp. As for Claypool, its frustrating...but why push something for mini-camp? Fields will get together with his receivers again between now and training camp. Its not the biggest deal in the world, but I get the concern.

+1 It is frustrating. But I have to figure it is injury related and it doesn't benefit him or the Bears to play hurt (or not all healed from injury) just to get mini-camp reps in June. I agree it's not the biggest deal in the world. It is concerning due to us not knowing what he can/can't do with Fields this year. But it is what it is.
What I don't want to do is jump to the conclusion that Claypool is somehow at fault here. And that headline that the Bears locker room is not happy with Claypool seems like clickbait to me. It makes it sound like the whole team is up in arms over Claypool right now and the guy is some kind of headcase when you read some of the stuff being written about it all. I doubt that is the case. He understands that his NFL future hinges on him having a good season - whether he stays a Bear or moves on to another team, it's his play this year that dictates which path is in front of him in the NFL. There is a good chance that this next contract for him can be a nice long-term one (with whomever) if he delivers a good year this season.

We've had 3 or 4 supposedly big stories over the last couple of months. As far as I can tell all of them ended up becoming nothing-burgers. Actually, I believe they were all in one form or another exercises in Bears beat reporters engaging a classic effort of MSU. Nothing of substance to report and we need to publish something.
Just as a reminder about Claypool, here is a Steeler highlight video of his play. Now almost all of it is from his rookie season in 2020. It was also the last year where Roethlisberger was an effective NFL QB. The next year was Ben's last year and both he and the Steeler offense had their share of issues. If we can get Claypool in his rookie form and Fields makes the strides that most of us think he will make, Claypool will be a wonderfully productive #3 WR on our team.
In the highlight video there is a game where he catches 3 TD passes. His performance was simply amazing.

Exactly. We don't know how the Claypool season will play out. But one thing we do know. Claypool needs this season to be a good good one for him - a lot more than the Bears need Claypool this season. He gains nothing by being a head case because he will be considered dead to Fields and won't leave Chicago with anything more than a toxic cloud over him. It will hurt his career. It will bigtime hurt him financially as he moves forward. But if he works hard, keeps Fields' trust and has a nice season - then he probably will get a nice payday from a team... probably a long-term contract instead of just a 1-year "prove it" gig.
That's why I struggle to buy into the drama of the past few days... which incidently was a "rumor" from Silvy that was regurgitated by a lot of other pod people or sports talking heads. It's like if the rumor gets re-repeated often enough it will be considered as truth. LOL.

And you really need to listen closely to what Silvy says and how he says it. And remember this is a 45 - 50 second clip from a 3 - 4 hour show.
He says that "he has heard from people inside that building that he is not somebody who is not that self-motivated" and then Silvy continues to say "all I can say that it isn't trending in a way that the Bears have wanted it to trend".
I have developed a very deep suspicion on anything where someone in the media is trying to sell a story based on unnamed sources. And the real statement about where Claypool is not performing up to the unnamed Bears insider's standard is in fact Silvy's personal opinion. If he had someone specifically saying that there were several people on the Bears staff and back office who thought this and were unhappy about Claypool, I am sure we would have much more than a 45 - 50 second blurb on it. Silvy would have been saying that he had heard statements that several people "inside that building" were unhappy with it.
This stuff makes me sick. And this is specifically why I just tune this crap out and have stopped listening to most of the media. Especially those with the financial pressure to produce stuff on a daily basis.
