Was it a product of poor defensive play are poor game planning. Could be both I suppose. I will admit that the west-coast offense can be hard to stop though. It's designed to move the ball gradually and get yards after the catch. When planned for it can be stopped though and the Bears made the Chiefs look like they ran it to perfection.

On glaring issue I kept seeing was the terrible coverage on punt returns. Guys were not getting downfield enough to stop them and when they were they couldn't make the tackle.

Fangio had the DBs playing predominantly off coverage which is why the short routes were so effective. Rich Campbell of the Tribune suggested that Fangio was trying to get some practice and evals in using off coverage so much.

Tells you how little that game was about anything other than player evals that we were playing off coverage the whole time. If there's any team your corners should be jamming at the line and playing tight man on, its the Chiefs. Alex Smith isn't a deep threat QB. 90% of his passes are within 15 yards of the LOS. The Chiefs play the epitome of a "dink & dunk" offense. Yet our D backed off like it was facing Marino with 4 deep shot receivers out there every play.

It was a very Lovie-esque style of play that, when the opposition stubbornly refuses to make a mistake and turn the ball over, leads to losses.

If losing Grasu was a punch in gut this was a kick in the nuts.

Shaw that guy just looked the part to me he's a solid leader. The feel of the game was night and day different when he was in game compared to Hoyer even Cutler doesn't have it. Shaw was showing me he maybe has that "it" factor. Than as you say the "kick in the nuts" occurred the one person I didn't want see go down it was this guy.
