Would really like to see Johnson and 1 of Mooney/Kmet being extended this summer, would make me feel much better. Not great to have both Mooney and Claypool FAs, also CBs are rather unknown... need continuity
I can honestly see them not extending Mooney and taking a shot at getting Harrison in the 2024 draft.

So far, would much rather extend Mooney than Claypool, so we have more than enough room for draft next year.
That would tell me Eberflus is running the show and all the “support Fields” advocates around here are going to get a tension headache.
We’re still missing the key piece to run Flus’s defense as he’d like to. Poles will go with what his coach needs most. Personally, I’m ok going either way as our two positions of need line up well with the strength of the draft. Passing on Carter wouldn’t give me heartburn, but passing on Anderson most definitely would but he’ll be gone well before our pick….
Once Anderson/Carter are gone, none of these DE guys are worth taking at #9. There are a ton of edge guys in this class, and we can get a good one in second round. The only 3-tech I would take at #9 is Ade, and butkus swears that would be the worst pick in 100 years. I don't care. That's my guy. I would move up in second round to get ahead of Lions for him.
I don't see the correlation. Teams routinely run 3 WR sets. I could absolutely see them going WR at 9 or within the first 2 rounds if thats the BPA on their board. Poles hasn't been shy about drafting BPA.
They absolutely will not. Teams might run 2 wr sets, but we already have 3 they plan on running with; and this team won't. Look for a lot of 2 TE sets. They want to run not pass.
We'll see. Its not just about THIS year...but next year and so on. Mooney and Claypool's contracts are up in one year. As I believe you've stated, its unlikely BOTH are resigned, which would make having a rookie ready to step in valuable from a roster building standpoint. Poles has shown he will take the BPA during the draft.
Now...do I think it happens? Not necessarily, because I'd imagine there are players at other positions who may be ranked higher. But would I say its an ABSOLUTE? No.

There some nice pieces in FA next year, and better WR's in the 1st; and the Bears have 2 of those.
Also, WR's mean nothing if the OL cannot protect the QB; which this team cannot.

I would not bet my life on it, but Ric is probably right. I wanted him to buy a RT in free agency so that he would be positioned to draft JSN at #9. Since that did not happen, I expect he will draft Paris Johnson at #9. Not ABSOLUTELY, but 99%.

As we've routinely seen...the top receivers rarely make it to the market. They are either resigned, franchised, or traded and resigned. I don't think any GM is basing this years plan on what is an unknown market next year.
As for your second point...yes and no. Cincy's o-line was hot garbage, but they made the Super Bowl because they had a great QB and one of the top receiving units in the game. As far as this offensive line is concerned, THIS year, it has been improved on paper. Signing a guard, and moving Whitehair to center fixed two positions in theory. Now we just need a right tackle. Fields "SHOULD" have better protection this year.

Listen, I don't think they'll take JSN either, but it wouldn't surprise me either if it happens. Hell...they might not even pick at 9. There's a lot we don't know right now.

But sometimes they do. And again we have a 2nd 1st if the team wants to look into a trade. If they are smart they can trade back and possibly get a 2nd 2nd or 3rd next year to sweeten the pot.
Cincy is an exception to the rule, not the rule. Don't assume the Bears are good enough to be the exception.
