6 million is still 6 million that could of went to a player that deserves it far more. Say what you want but every penny counts towards the limit cap every team has.
He's getting paid a bit more then cordelle patterson, and in the range of the 10-15 rb's according to AAV on spotract. I'd say that's pretty accurate to his value. He's a far better running back then those that are getting paid in the 3mil range.
I agree with that but just like Jordan Howard days. We can find a cheap rookie replacement in the draft. Monty isn't top 5 or even top 10 RB. Better to put that money somewhere else. Even if its overpaying for a Tier A or Tier B guy rather than a Tier C guy like Monty.

Monty is laughably better then Howard; who had gotten worse each year he was in the league. They could have easily kept Monty, and my guess is if they thought he was going to a div rival they might have put more emphasis on him.
But yes, unlike Forte, chances are you can replace him in the mid rounds of the draft.

I get it. Would have liked to keep him, he's a rock solid dude and a solid RB. But RB is kinda like G, C, and ILB is that it's hard to justify paying a guy who isn't elite/near-elite at the position. With regard to the those, it's almost impossible to tag a guy there becuase the tag cost reflects other more highly paid sub-positions like OT and OLB. All linebackers and all OLs get lumped togather under the same tag category.

Thing is, if he had gotten 10mil a year I'd understand people going he got paid to much, but 6 mil is just next to nothing in the NFL right now; and again the Bears need to "spend" this year, and chose not to.
I was okay letting him go, no biggie, but people keep saying he got paid to much, and really he didn't. Or they'll say we got a similar RB for less, and we didn't. We got a lesser RB for less. Still a good rb, but in todays game to have no threat as a receiver is to not be a complete back.

That's what the draft is for and besides we have Herbert who is a far better runner and had a higher yards per carry then Monty.
If Monty was Barkley good. I can see your point. Average RBs are replaceable. Heck most RBs are replace including elite ones since their career progression always declines year after year.

The real question here is did we replace Monty with a lesser RB?
Based strictly on the stats as runners I think you'd have to say no. Foreman's career average is higher and over the past two seasons it's .5 ypc higher. While Foreman wasn't used much as a receiver in Carolina prior to that in both Tennessee and Houston he was more often with a catch rate of over 80% and an average over 13 ypc vs Monty's 8 ypc average. So I think it's wrong to say Foreman isn't a receiving threat at all.
He's also a little bigger than Monty and he appears to be a bit faster as well. All in all I'd say they're somewhat comparable backs which is why Poles signed him.

Monty had more rec's last year then Foreman has in his career, to say he's anything near what Monty is, olympic lvl's of stretching.

Monty was a player I really respected and liked (class act off the field too). Always gave everything he had on every down. But he's gone now and that's the way it is. Teams can draft a Monty-level RB pretty easily (he was a 3rd round pick) and pay ~$800k to $900k/yr and get a young guy with fresh legs - for a 4-year rookie contract. If I was a GM I'd be drafting an RB every 2nd or 3rd year like clockwork. That may seem kind of mercenary but I'd be investing money into other positions that are more expensive to keep the talent-level high. Once Fields is beyond his rookie contract here, the only way you can budget for paying a franchise QB nowadays is to make good decisions as to where you invest your cap money at the other positions on the team... and RB isn't a position where you need to waste any money. JMO.

Bingo. Other than verbally honoring him for his Piccolo Award why are we discussing a Lions RB?
Does it matter whether or not D'Onta Foreman is better or worse than Monty? For good or ill he's our new RB whose gonna team with Khalil Herbert. Congrats to Monty and the deal he got. He's good football player and he'll be missed but he wasn't worth as much to the Bears as Detroit was willing to pay him. We lost players this way and we signed other players when there teams offered less than we did. It's time to move on from David Montgomery/
