That's a ballsy strategy to just assume the players you like will fall perfectly to you on the board.
I'd rather take a chance that I can find a RT in the draft than pay what the RTs got today. I'm not trying to be flippant. There were some huge contracts thrown at these RTs.
Saw that and maybe Poles said screw it, I'm not paying that kind of money for B- RTs, I'll spend it on an A+ ILB.
I guess so. I'm surprised how it has gone so far but that doesn't mean I'm right.

I am too. I was 100% certain Bears would be in on the top RTs. 100% sure. Definitely was sure they were going to add LBs while digging for hidden gems once the initial rush was over.
I'm curious (unless I've missed it) what the Bronco's FA D-line guy is going to get. I'm all in on him...let me find his name...Dre'Mont Jones. 100% in.
About the only guy I'm disappointed by was Pocic. I wanted him at C.

Earlier today it was reported they WERE in on McGlinchey. Sounds like they got outbid. Than KC paid ridiculous money to Taylor. Not sure where they go from here.
But I'm with ya' on Jones. Yeah he's gonna cost big bucks but this is an important get, not a luxury like Edmunds was. This is what you hope to be your Akiem Hicks 2.0 signing -- a young, ascending DT in a position Flus says is very important to his D.

I'm not bummed about Pocic as he really only has one standout season. Had some injury concerns too.
There are several other C still available in FA as well 3-4 guys who look promising in the draft (JMS being my fave). OT has far fewer options for a week 1 starter IMO.

I didn't want to have to draft a center OVER other positions I feel are more important. Its crazy thinking i know. I'd rather draft a RD2 OT, RD2 Edge or RD2 WR than a RD2 C. Thats literally the only reason I wanted Pocic.

I get it. We don't tend to think of C getting drafted before Day 3. Like Creed Humphrey last year though, JMS is worth a 2nd rd pick. Guy is a stud and very polished/NFL ready.
We may be drafting OL/DL x 3 with those #53-#64 picks now if there's not OT coming in FA.
If his numbers are right, that for $4m AAV more, Poles signed Edmunds AND Edwards AND got a 2nd round pick.
I understand it compared to paying Roquan. I don't understand it in terms of paying that much for the position.
Love Edmunds. The guy is a total stud and young. I'm just really surprised they're prioritizing off-ball LB as heavily as they are right now.
I gotta see the whole plan unfold first here to understand what they are thinking here. We just spend a good chunk of our available space on what many would consider a lower impact position group.
I don't see it as prioritizing. LBs are fairly easy to sign quickly, and if you do need them, it makes sense to go after them quickly.
There was no one on the roster, other than Sanborn and if there's no regression with him... Bears starting LBs could be one of the best units in the NFL.
Bears are also carrying $22.5 in dead money that disappears next season (if they don't add to it).

I agree the LB group is now excellent. Probably better than it needs to be actually.
I'm not really too concerned about the 2024 cap at this point as my focus is A) making good progress overall with the rebuild and B) more importantly, putting Fields in a position to succeed in critical year 3.
Edmunds is a fantastic player, no denying it, but it just kind of feels to me like having a pricey new car parked outside in the rain cuz you haven't put a roof on the garage yet.
I'll feel way better about it once I see some real progress on OL/DL.
