According to Bleacher Report, the deepest area in the draft is Edge rushers and second is Tackle. So we don’t need to worry much about availability of these positions in the draft. He can take RT in first round and DL in next two picks. Then BPA thereafter, which should include center and slot receiver.
So he should take BPA, but those two BPA's need to be from those two positions...got it LOL
I'm all for taking advantage of a "deep draft" but keep in mind that most of that "depth" isn't gonna be Day 1 starting material.
Yeah we might find a nice tackle prospect in round 4 but odds of him being a competent day 1 starter at RT are low. Because Braxton had such a promising rookie year, suddenly people think you can throw late rounders into the fray right out of the box and voila everything will be fine.
I doubt it. For every Braxton Jones there's a whole slew of Larry Boroms and Jordan Mills's.
Of course its still early in the offseason but NOW is when you assemble the vast majority of your roster. It's too late to "get worked up" in July.
And....you will be the first one complaining about "lack of investment" and "not supporting your young QB" if the OL looks like crap yet again.
My usual mood swing goes WAY negative ~Novemberish. In a really bad year it's in October. Then I am beyond consoling and in the depths of despair. My username here should be bi-polar bear. Big mood swings for sure.
You too eh? Mine usually trips it's trigger a little early around late Sept then again in Feb. Then there will always be more minor incursions throughout the year. It's nowhere near as bad as it once was but still no fun.
On another topic though. Isn't this the FA thread? Why are we talking so much about the draft here and not in that thread? Just askin'?

LOL, "thread drift" happens sooner or later. We can probably close this thread as the FA is basically over.
I'm just adding some context here. Some will say Poles was "disciplined" and "patient". Others will say he missed multiple opportunities despite having far more cap space than any other team. Pick your poison.
The only way I could consider someone saying he missed is by saying money was no object when quite obviously it was. What McGlinchey is saying out here is that no one else was even willing to come close to the guaranteed money Denver offered so no offer from Poles was ever tendered.
McGlinchey also preferred Denver from the get go. They overpaid to lock him down early and Poles moved on. Even for similar money McGlinchey was not interested in coming to Chicago period. You can't miss something you never had to begin with.

Perhaps so with MM but no evidence he took a run at Taylor or Brown either.
Water under the bridge now. Just sayin' we are kinda locked into drafting a T early

I am saying if he gets RT and DL with first 3 picks, then center and WR are remaining positions of need and so get heavy weighting in the BPA calculation. So a player at a different position would have to exceed in playing ability the center/WR available when the Bears are on the clock.

But again, we can choose to either say no evidence means one of two things:
(1) Poles never tried (2) Poles tried, but the Bears aren't going to release an official statement saying they tried.
I tend to believe Poles made calls on Brown and was told Cinny says he'll play LT can you promise that? And Poles said no. Brown's agent then said, you can make an offer but he wants to play LT so don't get your hopes up. Poles declined at that point. That strikes me as reasonable based on what Cinny, Brown and his agent have said.
Lack of information doesn't mean a call or an offer weren't made. And these FAs have to want to come to Chicago, the Denver FA didn't and Brown only wanted to play LT, thats why he left the Ravens.
FWIW here's an excellent overview of how Poles approach and his refusal to overpay for current talent should benefit the Bears and his ability to acquire talent going forward. Good read.
Excerpt; Adding a player the way they might have with McGlinchey removes huge chunks from not only this year's cap but future caps. It makes little sense when they might be able to find commensurate talent in the draft or even future free agency short term while continuing to look in the draft.
Paying out lesser amounts for shorter-term deals to free agents who can be role players in the short term makes more sense because the draft could eventually supply cheaper, better and younger players at the position.
Free agency ideally should be used for this and for one player who slips through unsigned to the marketplace and can unquestionably help a team long term. It should be used by a contending team for that one position to help put them over the top, or a team on the verge of contending that needs a little push.
Given the front line OT talent available in this draft to have guaranteed McGlinchey anywhere near what Denver did would have IMHO been the complete reverse of what Poles has stated he will do. Edmunds was actually guaranteed less and should have a much bigger impact overall than McGlinchey. There are no Tremaine Edmunds in this draft. There are Mike McGlinchey's.
