I just read the Flus quote about Bears needing a real “playmaker” at WR (Fishbain article in The Athletic), Fishbain listed a half dozen WR1 who were drafted in second round. Bears must draft a slot receiver with that first pick in second round….
1. Flowers 2. Boutte 3. Downs
JSN, Addison, Johnston will go first round. I don’t know where Hyatt is going, but I don’t want him.
Between our desperate need for a WR and Flus admitting it, Poles' indication that he can get at least a '24 1st rounder and '25 1st rounder (indicating a decent trade down), Fields' glowing praise and desire to play with JSN again, and JSN's combine performance, I think it's very possible he's the Bears' main target in the first at this point.
BINGO, Sir!
The way its shaping up, I'm thinking a Carolina trade and taking JSN at #9 is Plan A.
No WR in FA is anything special. Everyone else requires trading a pick plus paying a big contract and all those guys are age 30+. More and more, I'm on board with spending big $ on OL & DL in FA and drafting JSN.
The fact they re-signed him was A) no surprise and B) does NOT mean he's the long-term future guy. He's a short-range bridge option
Geno fucking blows. He's blown since the day he entered the league (Rex Ryan called him "brutal" to watch in practice) and he's blown on 3 other teams since. Yes, he caught everyone by surprise and had a career season in 2022. Lightning in a bottle. It won't be repeated and Seattle has to know that.
I repeat: no 5th team 32 yo QB has suddenly become a franchise long-term term starter.
EVER
It has NEVER happened, even once.
To quote one of my favorite political commentators, “Everything is unprecedented until it happens.” If you’ve ever heard Pete Carroll talk about Geno, they have confidence in him and just backed it up with $105M. I watch all Seahawks games. I agree with Pete.
You did not answer my question. How many Seahawks games did you watch last year?
I watched several. And yes, Geno was good in them. In the playoffs, he sucked and they got blown out.
I can cite you plenty of stretches where Cutler and Trubisky looked good too.
How much would you wager that Geno Smith is the Seahawks starter 5 years from now? Cuz if he isn't, then he's not the long-range answer right now, is he?

He was up against the 49er defense playing behind an OL that is weak at G/C. If you watched games last year, you should know that. That is the same problem Fields had. Both teams will get that fixed. And it’s a 2-yr. Plan to be Super Bowl ready — not 5. Geno has a 3-yr. Front loaded contract. He is getting $52M this year.
"Then came the Geno Smith deal. Three years, $105 million! As Mike Garafolo of NFL Media has reported, and as PFT has confirmed, it’s three years, $75 million, with a whopping $30 million in incentives.
The triggers aren’t yet known. They’ll say plenty about how much of the extra money he’s likely to actually earn.
The deal also has $40 million fully guaranteed at signing, with base cash flow of $28 million in 2023, $22 million in 2024, and $25 million in 2025.
We’re waiting for the full and complete details. The basic information suggests that the guarantee applies to all of 2023, with another $12 million guaranteed in 2024.
That makes it a two-year, $50 million deal (plus incentives). It also means the Seahawks could potentially move on after one season. They’d owe $12 million for 2024; possibly, he’d get that much (or close to it) on the open market, offsetting Seattle’s obligation."

I want Anderson first and WR in second round. No JSN in first round unless we get a Trey Lance deal. I would trade up into bottom of first round to get him if price not too high.

Just for reference.
Perfectly sensible contract considering that Geno isn't exactly a proven entity. Its $25m/yr (pocket change for a QB) plus incentives on a 1-2 year deal.
Seattle obviously doesn't believe in Geno that much either otherwise they'd be locking him down long-term and paying $35m+ a year.

JSN would be a Carolina trade kinda pick as I stated above. Poles has already said he's expecting 2 FRPs as a condition for moving down a little more.
Unless we stop at #2, which is ok but not the best plan, we aren't getting Anderson. And it would cost at least 2 2nds to move back into the late-1st and JSN isn't gonna get past #20 or so IMO.

Anderson at #2 is best unless somebody gives me a Trey Lance deal to move off of Anderson/Carter. That has always been my position.
According to the sacred chart, we could do the Colts deal and trade #35 plus Bears 3rd round pick for #21 to get JSN. I would do that.

No, Anderson at #2 is not the best plan. This team is far away from needing "one key guy". I'll be disappointed if that's the best trade down Poles can do. The only way I want him trading to #2 is if he's sure he can trade again. IOW, there's an "agreement in principle" in place with a 2nd team.
Drop the Crater bs, dude. I know he's your man-crush but there's no chance the McCaskeys are gonna sign off on drafting that guy now (in the top-5 to boot!) and yes it will require approval from ownership to draft a guy staring at jail time and a possible league suspension.
Hmmm, aren't you the guy screaming for "getting Fields a WR"? After his Combine, JSN is unlikely to reach the low-1st where you might trade back up. And then you're burning two picks to do it.
Finally, any trade down past the top-5 is gonna require a 2024 FRP at minimum. Poles has already said that as does the draft chart. The Bears need that extra FRP as insurance. If Fields busts badly in yr 3 (I doubt it, but always possible), then have the firepower to pursue a new QB. If the WR group still isn't where it should be, they'd have the firepower to possibly draft Marvin Harrison, Jr.
This has nothing to do with Anderson. And it sure as hell has nothing to do with Carter who the Bears wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole in the top-5 right now.
Yeah, I like the kid too. Off the charts talent. Off the charts character too. I could see him as one of those priceless guys in the locker room too. Just a good guy. He could have a Hall of Fame career for someone.
That’s why (absent a Trey Lance deal), maybe the best move is trade with Texans and draft Anderson. Get their second round pick and draft a WR.
