The man has only had one game where he threw over 200 yards. He's sub 200 every other game. A QB's main job is to throw the ball. Now he has a dislocated shoulder. He's a RB playing at the wrong position.
I'm not saying he can't improve but get rid of the kool-aid for a second.
get rid of the kool-aid? Maybe you should get rid of the Angry Orchard. Yes, he's sub-200yards per game. Brady, Mahomes, Bradshaw or Montana wouldn't consistently get over 200 yards a game with these WRs and this OLine either.
I've seen Brady take a horrible offense that is injury prone and a bunch of scrubs at WR to AFC Championships. If there is a will there is a way. Fields is no Brady but expecting 200+ yards a game in today pass happy NFL isn't much to ask for is it?
I mean people are acting like he's making one read and then taking off and running. He's going through reads and progressions. He's taking off and running when he has to because there's no other choice OR its called for him to run. The dude is a competitior...he's not just going to throw the ball away because nobody is open(and a lot of you would be killing him for that!!), he's trying to make shit happen. This idea that he's not trying to play QB is false and lazy.
It is just depressing to see what he has to work with this year. There is nothing fans can do about the situation. But it is still very depressing.
Since Getsy changed the offensive scheme, the Bears are averaging 29.6 ppg over the last 5 with these WRs and this OL. This offense may not look pretty, but they are running the ball like I’ve NEVER seen in my life and scoring points. Can anyone doubt that this offense will get better with more players added at the weak spots next year?
I do not worry about the offense in 2023.
Fixing the defensive front-7 is going to be the big challenge for Poles. Everybody around here is so obsessed with Fields and the offense, but it seems to me that the defense is what’s killing us, and it’s gotten even worse since he got rid of Quinn and Smith to complete his mission to dismantle the defensive front-7. He created this situation and now it’s his job to fix it.
If you missed it, do yourself a favor and watch the Bears’ second-to-last drive of the game, which started late in the third quarter. Fields was playing quarterback — and doing so at an extremely high level.
(Warning: Critics who clearly don’t watch the games and don’t think Fields can throw should NOT read further.)
• 3rd-and-3: Fields sits in the pocket, scans the field from left to right and hits Chase Claypool on at least his third (maybe fourth) read for a gain of a six and a first down.
• 3rd-and-3: Fields makes a great pre-snap read and immediately hits Cole Kmet in the flat for five yards and first down.
Next play: Fields sits in the pocket with no one open, redirects Kmet out of pass protection because he had no one to block, rolls to his right and throws an absolute laser to David Montgomery down the right sideline for a gain of 32.
3rd-and-12: Fields stands in the pocket, doesn’t pull the trigger on a checkdown to Kmet, escapes pressure to the left, runs all the way to the right, and hits Equanimeous St. Brown for a gain of 14 and a first down.
For everyone asking Fields to prove he can make big plays with his arm in the fourth quarter, he just did that on a clutch, game-tying fourth-quarter drive in Atlanta.
Naturally, the defense couldn’t keep the game tied, so Fields once again had to take the field, this time down three with 1:47 left in the game. Still, this was a big opportunity to build on what Fields had just done with his arm, in a game where the Falcons had actually done a decent job of stopping him as a run threat (he only had seven rushing yards in the second half).
And that’s when Getsy called a quarterback sweep to the left on first down, a play in which Fields didn’t look nearly as fast as he normally does and fell awkwardly on his shoulder as he was tackled out of bounds.
1. Every football player is one bad hit away from getting injured. Hell...you don't even have to get hit to be injured. Teddy Bridgewater almost lost his leg on a play in practice in which all he was doing was dropping back to pass. Its football, injuries happen.
2. He's not "pretending to be a running back", he's doing whatever the frig he has to do to help this team win, and right now he's their best weapon and best chance.
3. I don't think any of us are ok with it...but perhaps you haven't noticed the dog shit at receiver not named Darnell Mooney?
4. Fields is a stud...thats not hyperbole or unfactual.
You mean the same type of crap at receiver Mitch had to deal with back then and yet somehow managed to throw for more than 230+ yards?
Yes, Fields is a stud runner. But I wouldn't call him a stud overall just yet. I understand people are excited to see a Bears QB w/ lots of potential and a high ceiling, I am too. But please stop acting as if this is mic drop case closed situation. As the 11th pick overall he still has a sh!t ton to prove.

This kind of offense is not sustainable. Fields won't be in the NFL long running this. Fields will never become the solid NFL QB he is capable of becoming, running this offense. riczaj01 has been trying to make this point. Me too.
Of course we need to have a good defense. A good NFL team has to have a good TEAM and not just one great unit while the other unit totally sucks. You need O, D and STs to be at a decent level for sustained winning. I don't understand why fans can't grasp this. It kind of pisses me off to be honest. This Bears offense needs help. Fields needs help. Yes, the D needs help. Frankly I don't care about the defense until Fields gets the OL he needs to operate in a "real" NFL pocket - and he has a rock solid WR unit. For fans who think this OL is "okay" I can't even get my head around that. Fix the OL and prosper. Fields needs a WR1. Get that guy, and watch Fields become a "real" QB who can rip and gut defenses with his arm - without getting carted off fields with a broken body and a shortened career.
At this point I don't care about the D or winning. Get the O fixed and then worry about the D. That's me. Don't care what others think.

Yep, it takes one bad hit or slide and boom, the season can be over. That shoulder happens on his throwing arm, in 2-3 years when the team is good, then what?
And teams are already shutting it down when it matters. Make Fields sit there and be a qb, and he cannot hit open wr's in those instances. It appears Fields is looking less for his WR's and routes and more for an opening to gain 4-5 yards w/his legs in this last game in that last drive.
This O isn't going to work longterm unless the Bears do what Balt did, and 100% commit to building it; and even then, what has Balt done in the playoffs when it matters?
The worst thing that this team, GM, HC can do is use these last few weeks a proof they need to center on the Def.
So thats all we're looking at? Stats? Tell me you haven't watched a game without telling me you haven't watched a game. How does one throw for 200 plus when his receivers don't get separation? Since I'm apparently "drinking kool aid" explain to me HOW Fields should be routinely throwing for 200plus.
Stats are some of the most important figures when judging any player? Are they the define all? No.
We got Mooney and Claypool. As well as Monty as RB. He should be producing far more than he does with those two at WR and Monty at RB. Plus a run heavy team that can produce a lot of play action passes to open up the pass.
The modern NFL is very pass happy with rules as well.
I've seen Tom Brady bring no name WR's to the AFC Championship game in years past. Is he Tom Brady? No, but the rules have changes so much to make it easier for the QB.
Stats are only meaningful when they are taken into context. If I'm only using stats to judge a player and not taking their situation into context I'm going to come up with a flawed evaluation.
You named 2 players who have been here all year, only 1 of whom is a receiver. The other one got here 3 weeks ago and doesn't even know the playbook. And last I checked, he doesn't control what plays are called...thats an HC/OC issue. Either way, I can run all the play action I want, if receivers can't get open on a consistent basis its meaningless.
I'll ignore for the moment you're comparing him to one of the greatest to play the position, however, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski are no names? Brandin Cooks is a no name? Danny Amendola is a no name? Martellus Bennett is a no name? Wes Welker is a no name? Branon Lloyd is a no name? Aaron Hernandez is a no name? RANDY MOSS is a no name? I mean lets be real here...Brady wasn't exactly in the poor house when it came to receiving talent in his career.

You talking about Mitch's rookie year? He averaged under 200 yards a game, 182 to be exact. Thats when Mitch had CRAP at receiver. They also let Mitch throw 100 more times than Fields has in basically the same amount of games(11 to 12). In his second year, where he averaged 230 yards a game they went out and added Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Trey Burton in free agency, as well as drafted Javon Wims(I know), Anthony Miller, and had Tarik Cohen emerge in his second year. The talent level and situation isn't even CLOSE.

Fields will naturally run less and pass more once we get the OL upgraded in the middle and draft a true WR1 with first round pick. We might have to get our WR2 from FA or draft if Claypool can’t hack it. Don’t know yet. At most, that means we just need to add 3 or 4 guys to this offense. If Poles can find the RIGHT 3 or 4 guys, I am very confident that the Bears will have a top-5 scoring offense in 2023. That is ALL we need on offense. Anything more is overkill at the expense of defense. And it will be a sustainable run-strong offense like the Ravens with Lamar Jackson.
If Poles doesn’t pour a significant amount of resource into the defensive front-7, we are going to continue scoring 30 ppg next year and still get beat at the end of 4th quarter because we can’t get a defensive stop when most needed.
Finally, “getting the offense fixed fixed first” means drafting WR1 in first round. That’s where I worry Poles will disappoint both of us.
