OK, this might really be a koolaid thread but this is what I just thought up:
1. The odds of Cutler getting cut are normally over 50% on any given day going into the off season. 2. The chance we hit lightning in a bottle with an NFL ready QB on day 1 of the draft are possibly less than 10%. It is a different assumption than stating we get a good top 4-5 pick QB who will be ready in 2-3 years. 3. The good pieces of the Oline (guards) are pretty much in their prime years. 4. Rumors are Cousins is pissed at Washington for franchising him with a one year prove deal.
Well for one he got treated badly in Wash in spite of getting franchised and his last two years have really been what I call top 10 QB quality. Chicago has a need as do a lot ofmteams but he could step into a good situation with a new coach, O Coodinator, and a team flush with CAP space. A lot of things could be fixed this offseason to accelarate the rebuld. Anything can happen but 99% of the time it doesn't.
there will be Teams ready to contend that will reach out to him
True but as noted a lot of things (I mean all the stars would have to align perfectly for this to happen) can happen in one off season. We have an interesting mix of veterans and young players who comprise the nucleus (Albeit many are injured) of a team that can accelerate it's rebuild with maybe 2-3 Free Agency signings (Young players like QB and CB as examples). Look I realize this is a koolaid thread at best but there is always that .01% chance Pace will hit home runs on all his dealings. Cousins could be a great target if he makes it to FA. And by cutting Cutler before June 1st you already have about 55% of his projected yearly salary and CAP hit (14M of 25M).
On one hand I would enjoy having someone with real NFL experience to take Cutler's place as our #1 QB but on the other hand being so close in the top 3 do we really overpay for a QB who had 1 and 1/2 good years in the NFL?
I rather just go after a QB in this draft rather it be in the top 3, late first, or 2nd round then overpay for a QB who may not even work for our system.
The bottom line is if the Skins come up with the cash Cousins will stay despite how he feels about management....cash is always king. Further as has been mentioned the Skins said they would franchise him again...talk about a bet on yourself that has paid off. Even if he doesn't come to a long term deal he will still make 24 million in 2017. That means between 2016 and 2017 he'll make a combined 44 million guaranteed. Thats also why he isn't going to come cheap at all.

True dat, depending on the cost would anyone be opposed to see a hypothetical scenario where Cousins forced his way out of Washington like Cutler did in Denver?
