A week ago we were ready to cut our wrists over the OL. Now we are all giddy about 'em after the Titans game.
It only took a week for Fox and Loggains to "fix" the offensive line. Next week? Maybe Barkley will have a good game and we can rest-easy that Loggains has "fixed" our franchise QB woes.
LINK Bears film session: Offensive line gives Matt Barkley a chance
The offensive line did an excellent job protecting Barkley against the creative Titans defense designed by Dick LeBeau. The Titans used more than a four-man rush only three times in the first three quarters but dialed up the pressure in the fourth quarter as the Bears mounted a rally.
The Titans had 13 five-man pressures and one six-man blitz in the fourth quarter when Barkley was throwing the ball almost exclusively. Barkley wasn't sacked all day despite the Titans having talented pass rushers on each side of the line in Brian Orakpo (nine sacks) and Derrick Morgan (eight sacks).
Tackles Charles Leno and Bobby Massie played particularly well and the backs, primarily Jeremy Langford, did a good job in blitz pickup. Guards Ted Larsen and Eric Kush also played well. Center Cody Whitehair had one particularly bad snap that went over Barkley's head and another that was to the left and led to a missed running back exchange but should have been handled by the quarterback. Whitehair also had a holding penalty.
Barkley was able to make the game interesting in the fourth quarter and he was able to perform because the line held up well.
Listening to 670 this AM, they said they thought the backup OL did good enough against Minny to not rush the starters back, and that it hurt them in the TB game; and again you saw that the backup OL did a good enough job against another really good opponent.
Again, could they use more depth and a better RT, ya maybe, I won't debate that. But I think people are putting way to much emphasis on the OL right now. They run block great, and their pass protection when Cutler isn't in the game is more then good enough.

You could be 100% right, Ric. I just want to see more than 1 game of good play. That's all. And I am sure you do too. I am very happy the OL did well. I really am. And I've said many times (and I think you have also) that the team needs to evaluate the players and coaches more fully at the end of the season. That will give us a more realistic body of work to look over - for coaches and players. And the OL certainly falls under that category too.
