I think for me the important thing is Fields hasn't regressed. He's probably slightly better than last year and Poles can work with that. He's not using up much cap space and even if he doesn't like Fields, he can work with him while he rebuilds the team, unless an unmissable option turns up in the future. When Fields comes to picking up the option then Poles can move him on or sign him up depending on how he's been performing.
I found the video from Kurt Warner really interesting that JABF posted just before the start of the season. Warner broke down what Fields is and isn't capable of based on last seasons tapes. Things look pretty similar if I'm honest. Some can be change of system etc.. but Fields needs to start making strides if he wants to become a long time NFL player.
Look at Trubisky, everyone thought he'd turned it around, going to Buffalo and then Pittsburgh, but really he was just the same old Mitch. Fields needs to improve, or he'll have a short career.
He was NOT almost hired by them because Poles never got to Minnesota for his second interview, so thats all speculation and most likely sour grapes. They WANTED him to come for a second interview...last I checked teams that lose interest don't bring you in for a second interview. Honestly...where do you get some of this stuff.
The Vikings are headed for another early playoff exit because their QB isn't the goods, but he's paid like he's Tom freakin Brady.
I don’t just make up stuff. I saw the same report from a couple sources. Here is one of them…
I am not saying they were not initially interested in a second interview. But when Poles would not agree to the owner’s demand not to tear down the roster, they lost interest. If you think about it from an owner’s perspective, it makes sense. He has a shitload of money invested in a QB he thinks can win, so the last thing he would want is a new GM dismantling the roster. On the other hand, the Bears agreed to allow Poles to do exactly that.
Hurts has evolved into a more complete QB. He was 26 of 31 passing on Monday, and plenty of it was from the pocket. They are now considered by most commentators as the team to beat in the East. It’s been a long time since anybody could say that about the Eagles.
You do make stuff up. HE WAS LITERALLY GOING TO GET ON A PLANE AFTER THE BEARS INTERVIEW!!! But sure...they lost interest.

The report — which I did not make up — was that they preferred Mensah because he promised not to tear down the roster and Poles would not agree (at least not on his first interview). So, true, they had not completely lost interest on Tuesday, but Vikings executives did say that Mensah was their leading candidate, and I can provide a source for that, too.

Its easy to become the leading candidate when the other candidate is no longer a candidate because he's been hired by someone else.

True, but that’s not what they said. They said Mensah was already the leading candidate after the first interviews for the reason previously stated. Again, from the owner’s perspective, once he invests a ton of money in a QB he thinks can win, I can understand why he wanted a clear commitment from the new GM not to tear down the roster. Reportedly, he got that from Mensah but not Poles.
I just saw an interview with Trent Dilfer. He says we need to give Fields 30-36 games. That would take us into the middle of next season. If Poles believes that, he will not draft a QB in 2023.
I just heard an amazing statistic. They said Fields held the ball 3.5 seconds on pass plays at Ohio State — most of all major college quarterbacks. Can anybody confirm whether this is true?

Habits are hard to break.
Not sure if that is true, but that is the worry when you take qb's from your top programs where there are 5 star recruits at every position. Ohio State is built around their OL, so Fields had days to wait for someone to get open.

Imo it looks and feels like the OC has no confidence in Fields. He wasn't very accurate today and missed open people while forcing it to multi covered ones. He's just not very good. I think he should be benched, and then put out Simian. If he gets better results with same talent then we know where the problem lies.
