I think we should have a thread dedicated to covering the progression of our new franchise QB. I found this article online from a CHicago Sports based blog that claims that Josh Allen's timeline paints a perfect picture for Justin Fields. After reading it, I predict Fields will explode in a month or so and his career will take off from there.

There’s no real reason to assume that Fields will progress on the same timeline as Josh Allen. The article gives him til Holloween (6 games) to show significant progress. I have to think Poles has his own timeline on Fields. Some speculated that he’s never had much confidence in Fields and engineered a tank season to ensure that he can draft his own would-be franchise QB.
He was almost hired by the Vikings, but they lost interest in Poles because the team owner wanted a GM who would promise not to trash the roster. Poles would not agree. That tells you something about his style, because the Vikings are not a team ripe for a total tear down.
I suspect — management statements to the contrary notwithstanding— Fields is on a short leash with Poles. He’s not going to wait for years with Fields the way Pace/Nagy did with Trubisky.

+1 Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed reading it. Really anything could happen with Fields this season. But it is not unreasonable to think he could make a significant improvement over the course of this season. Especially due to the fact that there should be improvement of the young players around him on this offense as the season goes on. I have no doubt the OL will improve. These guys are just starting to play together as a unit. It does take time for an OL to get it together in a case like this (new blocking scheme, players and coaches). As the offense (players AND coaches) progress through the season we should see improvement everywhere on offense. Fields will benefit from that too. We just need to chill and watch Fields and this very new/young offense mature together. I would be shocked if they did not improve over the course of the season.
Welcome to the messageboard. Mighty glad you are here.
I do feel JF will explode this year, he obviously needs some more time and confidence, in his WRs, OL and himself. Vs Peckers he did not see quite a few easy throws. He needs to think faster and during this season I believe he will.

I've read similar things. Not sure if it's accurate or just writer speculation but I hope it is.
My plan if I were Poles/Flus would be to make 2022 the "Justin Fields evaluation season". He gets 17 games to show what he can or cannot do and whether his arrow is pointing up or not.
I don't expect him, even in the best of circumstances, to light the league on fire or put up impressive numbers. But he does need to show steady improvement as the year goes on. IOW, weeks 15-17 need to be substantially better than what we have seen thus far.
If he does, then great! Poles goes all in next offseason to add pieces around him with a full load of draft picks and lots of cap space to spend. If he doesn't, the Bears are likely gonna be picking top 5-7 or so and need to be drafting another QB.

I agree. Fields and the offense will improve by Week 17. The question is where does Poles have the “bar” set for Fields? How much is enough? I was watching a video about Jalen Hurts — who looked phenomenal on Monday night. They said he made only modest improvement in year 2 but a major leap in year 3. They were patient with him and now the Eagles are best team in the East. Stylistically, Fields is very similar to Hurts. We can hope he is on a similar track. The caveat is that we’d better not see much of the stuff from week 2 when we get to week 17.

Every player is unique. No two team situations are exactly the same. As long as Fields is making significant improvements, I think that is where you set the bar - is he still ascending at a good rate? Or not? Then the coaches need to evaluate what they feel his ceiling is, in light of his progress (I'm talking about at the end of the season, evaluation of Fields). Then you make a decision as to whether or not he is good enough to be our QB as we move forward.
There are more moving parts here than fans like to acknowledge. It is not JUST the player being evaluated in a vacuum (looking at a stat sheet of TDs/ints/etc. The coaches will need to consider a lot more than that... a number of contributing factors that we have all talked about, regarding the Bears this year (learning new scheme, new players, the level of talent around him this year, etc). You don't give the guy a free pass. But you do evaluate him in light of all the contributing factors, and gather all of the facts before you make the decision.
What you DON'T do, is this crap fans throw out about all of these "other" QBs. Justin Fields is not those guys. He is Justin Fields. Evaluate the guy for who he is - or is not - but don't automatically dump him because he's not "Player X" ... evaluate him in light of his projected ceiling for the Bears. If that ceiling is high enough, then keep him. If not, let him go. But don't dump the guy because he's not developing as fast as some dude on some other team that may not have ANYTHING to do with Fields & the Chicago Bears' present situation. And keep in mind that a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers level of QB is not what every team gets, and that can be alright if the QB has the talent to win a championship. Fans see it in stark black and white (Fields is not QB so-and-so... so that automatically means he's not the guy for us). I would gladly take a 2nd-tier QB and be mighty happy with him here in Chicago. You can win with that level QB. It sure is better than the crap quarterbacks we've had here so far. If Fields can be a 2nd tier guy, hey, I'm a happy camper.

He was NOT almost hired by them because Poles never got to Minnesota for his second interview, so thats all speculation and most likely sour grapes. They WANTED him to come for a second interview...last I checked teams that lose interest don't bring you in for a second interview. Honestly...where do you get some of this stuff.
The Vikings are headed for another early playoff exit because their QB isn't the goods, but he's paid like he's Tom freakin Brady.

Fields is not close to Hurts "stylistically". Fields is much more of a pocket passer than Hurts will ever be. Beyond that, Fields is unbelievably more accurate as a passer. Just because they're both black and fast, doesn't make them similar.

I don’t just make up stuff. I saw the same report from a couple sources. Here is one of them…
I am not saying they were not initially interested in a second interview. But when Poles would not agree to the owner’s demand not to tear down the roster, they lost interest. If you think about it from an owner’s perspective, it makes sense. He has a shitload of money invested in a QB he thinks can win, so the last thing he would want is a new GM dismantling the roster. On the other hand, the Bears agreed to allow Poles to do exactly that.
Hurts has evolved into a more complete QB. He was 26 of 31 passing on Monday, and plenty of it was from the pocket. They are now considered by most commentators as the team to beat in the East. It’s been a long time since anybody could say that about the Eagles.
