5th round draft picks have a low success rate. I'm disappointed because I like all the Bear's draft picks, but there was little chance he was going to make it and contribute regularly.
But at some point one of these late round WRs/TEs has to hit right? Right?
It makes me appreciate the late round guys who DID make it, like Mooney. I think Braxton Jones and Larry Borom may be in that category too if they continue to look good.
Sounds like he was massively over-drafted. He is a project who needs a lot of work to improve. He got beat out by a 7th rounder. Here are his draft weaknesses (LINK):
Mechanical and lacking explosion into initial contact. Needs to guard against long initial lateral steps in run game. Athletic but movement lacks twitch in tight quarters. Needs to improve play strength contact balance. Doesn't play with consistent fire and passion as finisher. Punch needs to punish and not push the enemy. Would benefit from attacking rushers earlier with his length. Slows feet prematurely against speed rushers. Needs better hand positioning in general. Disappointing power to separate and redirect when rush hits his edge.
He sounds a bit like the anti-Jenkins due to the fact he doesn't play with the power, viciousness or passion that Teven plays with. I'm not sure you can "fix" that. He is not a quick fast twitch guy too. I can see why he's struggled against NFL talent. And I'm not sure he fits with the profile player the Bears want in their blocking scheme. I would not give up much to sign him, but if he is cut, then yeah, take a flyer on him. This is a 1st round 17th overall player in the '21 draft... the Raiders really whiffed on drafting him so high.
The knock on him is that he has really really bad hands. Our of 170 WRs last year he was 6th worst in the entire NFL. And his poor hands were a concern prior to the draft (LINK). In addition to that, he makes way too many mistakes like dumb penalties. The one thing we don't want is a stone-hands guy who makes a lot of dumb mistakes. Here's a really good read about him from a Jets writer's viewpoint (LINK). After reading that I'm thinking he'd be a bad signing.

Denzel Mims is on the Anthony Miller pathway. 2nd round pick who is/was a knucklehead and should have been drafted in the 6th.
Eh...I've read that he's got great tools, but the Raiders tried him at right tackle AND right guard and he sucked at both. Maybe he'd do better with different coaching or scheme, but I thought he was a reach when the Raiders drafted him.
