If you think the OL is "fixed" then re-watch last week's game. Yes, the OL was decent today. But it has struggled in games this year too. And if you think it is all Cutler's fault, just go back and re-watch the games if you have them recorded. The OL is better this year. It still needs attention.
Matt Barkley had a decent day too. Is our QB position "fixed" now? Of course not.
From week to week we seem to go from one extreme to another. After the Vikings win we were talking positive about Cutler. The next game we were ready to kill him. Last game we were in the depths of despair over the OL. Today we are talking about the OL being "the least of our problems"...
Maybe we should evaluate every unit at the end of the season, and with some sanity just see where we are truly at.
Football Outsiders (LINK) has the OL as being decent. They have the OL as 13th in run-blocking, and 18th in pass-protection. That's certainly better than in past years. But I'd like to see us continue to give it some attention, especially the tackles.
13th and 18th? But those numbers are nowhere near Tice's 31st and 32nd ranked O-lines.
Bears OL, 0 sacks 0 hits against a Tenn Def that is pretty good at pressuring the QB(top 3 at sacks).
So this idea that the Bears need to completely revamp this OL is off; the idea that they NEED an OT is also a bit off. Could they use another OT to really get over the top sure, but the OL is far better then people are giving it credit for.
I think this shows we need a QB who has a fast release. Both Hoyer and Barkley seem to not have a huge problem when it comes to sacks. With Cutler it seems he puts himself into that situation by holding onto the ball for fall to long.
There is a point to be made here. Hoyer/Barkley 7 games 4 sacks. Cutler 5 games 17 sacks. Sure maybe he played some tougher def's, but that doesn't make up for 13 sacks(4x's the sacks) in 2 less games.
Yeah it does when you look at the game situations and the defenses he's played against but never mind that. I'll give some credit where credit is due. I'm far more comfortable with trading Cutler now that we have a kid in the pipeline whose just like him.
Ya' had to love those two red zone picks right? Especially that second one. I like it. Barkley can throw off his back foot just as well and put the ball up for grabs too. I'm much more optimistic now knowing we could possibly keep on enjoying a "Same old Jay" with a "Same old Matt" next year.
We should add those to the playbook......or have we already?
i think more threads are needed about our need for a couple of tight ends. Logan Paulsen is a piece and Ben Braunecker isn't getting on the field (he must be rough). If we had a TE who could provide support off either edge we'd be in one heck of a better spot with our tackles.
Sure we could use another OT, but the more immediate need is TE depth and skill.

Isn't that Paulsen's role? More of an inline blocker and less of a receiver? I don't mind Paulsen as a blocker (although I tend to think that blocking TEs are archaic and I'd rather just run a 6th OL out there regularly in both run/pass situations...yes there is a reason I'm not in professional football) its when they scheme critical plays to him that I throw things at the TV.
