It was only after the last two weeks of High Profile Suspensions that I thought John Fox had a serious shot of being canned. The McCaskey's hate that kind of unnecessary embarrassment.
Realistically speaking...Fox will keep his job, but will offer up Cutler and Loggains as his sacrificial lambs. With Norv Turner already on his couch today and Mike McCoy not far from joining him...the OC market this winter may be pretty solid.
Spend our high pick on a new QB and try this all again next September.
(At least this season proved there is no longer any Unbeatable Juggernaut in the NFC North)
As crazy as this sounds I would rather not overreach on a QB but that may be the route they go. I would rather try and get a LT, then QB, and then CB. Just too much time still left to wonder about the possibilities.
We should have some great possibilities with a top-3 draft pick. That 2nd round pick is going to be pretty high (35th overall pick of the draft)... and hey, maybe if there is a solid guy at the bottom of the 1st round we could trade up at that point. Regardless, there should be a VERY solid pick in that 2nd round if we are that high in the draft. Heck, even our 3rd round pick would be the 67th overall pick of the draft.
Add a couple of KEY free agents to the mix, and our roster talent is going to be pretty solid at that point. Pace has brought in some very decent young talent in 2 years. I'm excited about seeing this 3rd draft/FA result.

LT isn't he problem though, RT is. CB wouldn't be terrible, but QB is THE position of need, which is just sad when you consider how bad the CB's have been.

Yup if Cutler is cut that is 14M xtra CAP.
Can get a good DE, RT, and CB for that kind of money
Welp ... since some are still shying away from drafting a QB in the 1st rd and think other positions are a more pressing need - fine , draft ur DE or CB in the 1st , and draft Baker Mayfield in the 2nd . I would be happy with that .

When something is not working (and it's clearly not), you move on and try something new. I'm sorry, but this whole "Don't fire Fox because we're gonna end up like the Browns" thing is just ridiculous.
You gotta keep trying until you find something that's actually working. It's really not that complicated.

I agree with the poster who said in one of these threads that, It is who you hire that counts, not just firing people. That may seem simple (it is) but it is not easy to successfully accomplish. That is the story in professional sports throughout history. It's not who you fire, but who you hire, that counts.
One other thought I had recently on this issue is that it is not a "given" that a solid head coach prospect is going to WANT to come to the Bears if he has a better offer on a better team-situation. All this talk about Bears dysfunction and the McCaskeys and other issues - don't think that is lost on a top-tier HC candidate. They have options too. Yes, we can get people to take the job, but it may not be the best options available.
There are arguments to be made on both sides. Cycling though coaches and GM's isn't good for an organization either. I'll go back to my old mantra when it comes to replacing people....who are you replacing them with?
That's the key point ^^^^^
Just shuffling in some new guy may or may not make us better. I would hope we can keep Vic Fangio. Some posters seem to think you just shake any tree and a Vic Fangio drops into your lap. I think he is a very special asset... possibly the #1 asset the team has right now (and that's including players and coaches). I'd rather not go back to the 50+ point blowouts any time soon.
I agree JABF. Thats why if they shit can Fox I'd just as soon rather them take a chance and make Fangio HC. Move Donatell to the DC spot and keep rolling with what we've got going on the defensive side of the ball. Fangio and Donatell have been together long enough you'd think by now he'd be able to run Fangio's defense.

If we can get Mike McCoy here I won't mind so much if Fox is here.
I don't know if we should just throw our high pick at a QB when we have talent like Garrett and Allen to be taken. We could always pick up Tony Romo for 2-3 years and pick a QB in the second to learn behind him.
Tony Romo is 37 and another back injury away from being a cripple. Some of that is hyperbole...but not that far off. I want no part of Tony Romo...we may as well just keep Cutler. Romo will not come cheap, and he will most likely want to play for a legit contender. I'll pass.
