If you take out Brady and Warner you won't see guys that are drafted later than Round 3 until 15 years ago with Brent Johnson.
Brady, Warner, are exceptions to the rule. So is Wilson and Dak.
It CAN happen, but Brady/Wilson/Dak weren't brought into be starters, it fell into their lap and they were prepared and talented enough to take it from either aging injured players(Bledsoe/Romo) or flat bad players(the schlub from Sea). So it's not a bad idea to take a qb in the 3-4-5- rounds it's not someone you plan on/think can be a starter it's the Orton's of the world that have high ceilings that fell further b/c of real/perceived limitations or off the field issues.

That is the bottom-line. Can you get a great QB in later rounds? Sure. But statistically it is not likely. It's like anything else in life that is "possible" but not as likely to happen. Like winning the lottery, or even filling an inside-straight in poker. Others have done that. Me? Not so much :-)

Luck and position are everything. Poker, COULD you win w/8-2, sure but no one is dumb enough to do it unless your in the big blind and no one raises. And even then you have to on the flop hit on 2 pair or 3 of a kind. Chances are minute. Meanwhile the guy w/2 face cards stands a far better chance(top 5 pick taking a qb in the first) of winning.

The elephant in the room is that yes, the Bears, may need multiple attempts to draft a true franchise QB. All the more reason to not wait until we are backed into a corner at the position and drafting in a crisis mode situation. Dallas did have Romo and could draft a Dak. The Patriots drafted Jacoby Brissett in the 3rd round this year, and Jimmy Garoppolo in the 2nd round a few years ago. This is what smart teams do. They always have a young kid in the pipeline. Those are high enough picks that there is a better chance of getting some quality. Not a sure thing. But somewhat better chances than us with the Enderles and Fales types later in the draft.
We just waited too long to get in the game and seriously TRY to draft a solid youngster. We haven't drafted a QB in the top 3 rounds in years and years. We've gone with guys like Hoyer and Clausen, backed by wannabees like Fales and Shaw.
JABF, that's why I was pissed that they've waited until now to draft one. I've been clammoring for a young high potential backup for 4-5 years now. You do not wait to get your future qb until your current is about to leave or is gone.
Not everyone is going to luck into Manning/Luck, that's is very rare.
