Trestmans problem wasn't that he was O or D minded; it was that he couldn't handle a locker room that never wanted him, or anyone else. On top of that he was incapable of dealing w/52 alpha's but unlike Fox who was allowed to get rid of real or perceived trouble makers, he had to deal w/them.

If the Bears were to grab a top O minded OC from the pro's or college I doubt they would have the same issues.

Other than that I wouldn't mind a McDaniels or Haley or Kyle. I think they deserve a second go round.

But that was exactly Trestman. An innovative offensive minded coach. His problem was his philosophy of discipline. Just doesn't work here. But I certainly have no problems with a guy from Canadian football. A good guy can be found anywhere. Just because the last guy we found there was a disaster does not mean they all will be.

This is why I was saying to give Fangio the HC promotion and a young whipper snipper as OC

Whoa whoa...Michigan was not a black hole. That team routinely had top 5 and top 10 recruiting classes before Harbaugh got there. The team was LOADED with talent, but Brady Hoke couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

I'm not saying Harbaugh isn't a good coach, and I'm not saying I wouldn't want him here...but let's not act like he's the second coming. Let's also not forget that that 49er's team that went to the Super Bowl had one of the best defenses in the league...which happened to be run by the guy who runs our defense currently, and happened to be LOADED with talent. There was also an exodus of talent from San Fran once he left there. Again...I like Harbaugh....but let's be a bit realistic here.

If you have to go to a high school type rah-rah coach who has to yell at professional NFL players to "motivate" them - as if they are in high school - then that's a problem. Not an asset. I'd rather have a brilliant coach who knows his ass from a hole in the ground. Coaching isn't about yelling like a lunatic. That's just a buffoon coach (Singletary comes to mind... dropping his pants in the locker room and showing off his hairy ass to players... how'd that work out?).

Wanting a coach with emotion doesn't necessarily mean someone who is in the players faces. Hell I'll take someone who wears their emotions on their sleeves any day. I like seeing a HC get fired up and give the refs a verbal beat down after a bad call. At least then I know he really cares. Better than standing there dumbfounded like Jaroun, Lovie, Trestman, and Fox do

Fox often gets pretty animated with the refs though.

If the Bears are looking for an HC at the end of the year - I don't think they will be - I think McCarthy might be a realistic candidate and I expect him to try and retain Fangio to run the defense.
