Bears already had Foles under contract in case they got no QB in the draft. Foles could have probably done the same thing Dalton did this season. No?
No. He wasn't as good as Mitch last season, you could not go into this season w/Foles and a 2nd-4th round pick at qb.
Yes, I would. Nagy/Pace got Dalton for their job security. Not expecting Fields to drop in our lap, I would have been pleased with Bateman in the first round and Mond in the second. I really don’t think we would have been much better with Dalton as QB1, and you may recall that I predicted he would not stay healthy all season anyway. I just did not expect he would go down this soon.

Way to go nostredomis no way anyone could predict a little an old replacement lvl QB to not last 16 games. Bateman monds would be terrible picks behind Foles who wouldn't have played 8 games bc of how bad he is, not health.
Dalton>>>Foles as a starter, as a backup as a mentor and it goes on and on, it's not even close.

Stats would say they're about the same. In fact I give the edge to Foles for being a Super Bowl MVP...

Imagine trying to flex about predicting injury in a sport where injury is a highly likely occurrence. Dalton is a better QB than Foles...if you don't think so...well...

LOL....there it is! I didn't know Foles was a Super Bowl MVP...thanks for letting us know. As for stats saying they're the same...what the hell stats are you looking at? Dalton has thrown for over 34k yards, and 220 TD's and been to the Pro Bowl 3 times. Foles has thrown for 13,700 yards and 80 td's. What exactly about those stats says they're the same?

Oh...and Bateman hasn't played a game yet...he's on the IR...you'd be killing Pace for taking another "bust receiver in the first round". Who do you think you're fooling?

Andy Dalton has a QB rating of 87.5 Nick Foles has a QB rating of 87.1
Stats are basically the same. The difference is one played through the playoffs and won it all...

Again I give Nick Foles the edge.
These are ratings, not stats. By your measurement you can have a rookie come in, play lights out for one game and have a rating of 140. Would the rook be the bestest of them all then?
Regarding the Dalton vs Foles comparison, Foles showed that he has such poor mobility and pocket presence that he really can't function as a starter. Not now. He just crapped the bed last year. The guy is just road kill. Dalton can still function to some extent as a QB in the NFL. Not great. But he is night-and-day better than Nick Foles. If folks can't see that - real game performance here and not stats from the past - then I just don't know what to say about that.
Stick a fork in Foles, because he is done as an NFL starter - or even much of a backup. Defenses feast on helpless immobile QBs like Foles now more than ever. Road kill. Nothing more.
EDIT: And if you need to compare stats, that also shows Dalton has been better than Foles here. Foles had a completion percentage of 64.7 last year here. Dalton's is 73.5%. Foles QBR was 43.3. Dalton's here has been just under 50. I'm not saying Dalton is some fantastic QB. Obviously he is not. But Foles, holy cow what a crappy QB performance we have all seen here from him. That was mighty hard to watch last year. Dalton actually had a passer rating of 118.2 in his last game for us. Nick Foles last game for us was a passer rating of 51.1 (no that isn't a typo). Have ANY of you forgotten how bad Foles' play was here? Unfortunately, I can't forget it. Horrific stuff.

I would agree that Dalton is a better #2 than Foles is at this point but would caution that Foles "terrible play" last year occurred during a series of games when the Bears OL was having a horrible stretch (remember the disaster that was Coward?). Yes, his immobility exacerbated that but let's face it--he had very little chance between the awful blocking and Nagy's playcalling which ignored that awful blocking. We saw the same thing with Fields in week 3--he had no chance either.
Dalton's play this year was exclusively high-percentage short throws--game manager type of stuff.
This is all water under the bridge right now but keep in mind this whole situation stemmed from Trubisky totally crapping the bed most of the 2019 season. Pace knew Trubs was a fail at that point (the vast majority of QBs who don't "break out" by the end of their 3rd year as starters end up as career backups only) and he had to bring in another viable QB. They tried Foles and then added Dalton--remember had no way of knowing Fields would fall to us.
Like I said, plenty of legit criticisms to be made of Pace but I can't blame him for the above. When you miss on a QB taken at #2, there's gonna be some messy fallout from that and that's what Foles/Dalton is/was.
