I think anyone attempting to pass any judgement on Fields from yesterdays game should have to spend 2 nights in jail.
Fields is a rookie making his first start and we all know there's a learning curve for any new QB. His HC did him no favors at all in the game plan or the play calling. His OL was a sieve all game long, particularly off the edges. His receivers had no separation after the 1sy quarter. Browns sat on all the short routes knowing their pass rush was gonna get home quick.
Fields had absolutely no chance whatsoever. It actually looked like someone intentionally made every possible factor work against him.

I may need to get out my tin foil hat but does it actually seem implausible to anyone that Nagy realised exactly what would happen with his obviously stupid game plan, but did it anyway because he thought it would somehow vindicate his decision to start Dalton (i.e., because he was getting heavily criticised for not starting Fields).

I don't know if I'd go that far, BBF, but I am pretty confident that Nagy wanted Fields on the bench for as long as possible because he knew that would buy more leash FOR HIM. As soon as Fields was starting, Nagy had no more place to hide form criticism.
Greg Olsen said pretty much the same thing on the broadcast yesterday.
Just heard while I was in the shower that no QB has ever had a worse showing then Fields when given 2.5 sec's to throw, now that is a new metric so we don't know how far that goes back, but the only one worse was some PS WR who hadn't played qb since HS and he was only playing b/c qb room got covid.
So while Fields didn't get near enough time, he had enough to play better then he did. While the OL and Nagy did him no favors, he should have done better then 1 net yard, he was completely wrecked and confused by the Cle def. If he plays again this year, Nagy cannot be the playcaller; he will ruin this kid.

The one real judgement we can give him is that he isn't ready to be QB1. That's ok, we expected that.

You can't make that judgment either after one game. Especially one that was a complete shit show on every level.
It's not like the pass pro was good, receivers were running around open, and Fields threw 4 picks missing badly each time. He never had a chance.
