It sounds like Nagy wants him back, but in light of that other thread post a few minutes ago by malagabears I believe it's to be the backup to Fields. What a QB room with Fields being backed up by Dalton this season - pretty cool situation.
LINK The Bears have not placed Dalton on injured reserve, which would mandate that the 11-year veteran miss at least three games. There is hope within the organization that Dalton will return sooner than that three-week threshold.
this OL and Nagy need a qb that can pre read a def and get the ball out quickly, laughably insanely quickly. There are vets that play the game that would not be able to do it.
I really don't think our problem is Dalton vs Fields. I don't see Andy Dalton as our savior. The problems go deeper than that.
Exactly
Anyone who thinks "Fields isn't ready" or that "Dalton would have won the game" doesn't know that the hell they're talking about. Tom Brady couldn't have won that Bears game today. Dalton wouldn't have done much differently than Fields.
I keep saying this over and over--there was no "getting ball out quicker" thing today! NO ONE WAS GETTING ANY SEPARATION AT ALL. There was no one to throw to, even short and underneath.
It was a clown school performance by the Bears recievers and especially by their blockers. They got completely trucked from start to finish.

I definitely understand the argument for trotting out Dalton... and if the OL is really this bad then maybe save Fields from the certain injury he's going to get sooner rather than later this season playing on this crap offense. I wanted very much to see Fields play and learn this year, even if we lose a lot of games. But I have to be honest and ask myself if he can learn anything playing on an offense built by Pace and coached by Nagy? Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not dissing anyone who thinks we should put Dalton out there and let him get injured and save Fields if we can - until we hire the new GM and HC here... people who actually have a clue.
In the meantime Brandon Staley, the guy I was hoping we would target after moving on from Nagy and Pace in January, is looking pretty decent in LA, beating Mahomes and the Chiefs....
