Nagy is covering all the bases here. He said Andy Dalton is our starter when he gets healthy again. He said Dalton is "week to week" with the injury. That's actually not a bad way to handle this. If Fields does show he's not ready to play, then Dalton can take over and it's not a big deal. But if Nagy had outright crowned Fields the starter and THEN had to bench him, it would be a bit more embarrassing I think. The way it is now, hopefully Fields gets at least a few games to begin his learning curve to being our franchise QB - and he looks reasonably okay for a rookie (not overwhelmed).
I was thinking today about this. I think what has fans (like me) so eager to begin the Justin Fields era is not just a "Fields thing" but more of being tired of seeing hopelessness on offense here in Chicago for so long. Fields gives them hope for something better and they just want the Fields era to begin. Not to see him look like Tom Brady this year. Just seeing something, anything, that gives hope for better times ahead. Anyway, we don't have to debate the "should he start or should he sit" thing for now. Injury woes forced the decision. Let's see if the kid flashes some game here. And buckle up. He'll undoubtedly go through growing pains and make bonehead mistakes this season. That is to be expected. But hopefully he learns his craft and gets better and better. I think he will.

Days after Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy was adamant that Andy Dalton would remain the starter, he announced Wednesday that the rookie Fields will start at quarterback Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Fields relieved Dalton in the second half during a Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals after Dalton exited with a knee injury that will keep him “week to week,” Nagy said. Nagy also couched the Fields announcement by saying he plans for Dalton to resume his starter role once healthy.
