I was on the fire Pace and Nagy wagon after last season and would still like Nagy gone today. Pace will fire Nagy to buy himself more time when it’s apparent he’s at risk.
The challenge becomes how does Fields develop if he suddenly has to deal with a new HC and potentially new coordinators. That being said, I’d still get rid of them both as neither seems to have the skill set to lead us to being a championship team.
That's exactly why ownership should have cleaned house and started a fresh rebuild last January. Maybe YOU said that; I certainly know I did.
No one else wanted it. Sounded too "scary". Lot of people, fans and owners included, made a lot of excuses for these two.
I did then and still believe so today. I felt Nagy should have been fired after the debacle in New Orleans after the playoff game. He totally mismanaged the game and I felt he lost the team because of it.
I believe 2021 is the "final exam" for Pace and Nagy. They will have to show that the GM and HC jobs are not too much for them to handle. Both were rookie hires at their respective positions. Both have struggled with some of their decision making. Both have failed (so far) to show CONVINCING evidence that they can handle the GM and HC jobs. There has to be substantive evidence of progress this season or they are gone after the season ends. I'm not saying that's what should happen or what is "fair" but I'm saying it will happen. Book it.

You may very well be correct, JABF. But that is and always was a stupid plan.
So...if Pace/Nagy "fail" this year (which looks increasingly likely), then they're gonna be replaced after squandering a year of Fields' rookie contract. Then you're gonna bring in another coaching staff and make him learn a new set of plays and schemes?
Does anyone else see how stupid this is compared to simply cleaning house LAST JANUARY when you should have? Am I taking crazy pills here?
who to blame - Nagy? Dalton? I dont know, but that is not a winning recipe.
You really ask if we should blame Dalton for the playcalling? The WRs didn't even run past 15 yards, there wasn't something Dalton could have tried to throw to medium/long.
nope, not blaming Dalton, but he does have options on the plays. Did he choose not to go deeper? I don't know, and i'm not going torture myself rewatching to see where the WRs went on every play. What I do know is neither Dalton, Nagy or Pace are the answer. Until the house cleaning that should have happened last year happens, we are doomed.

Yeah, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with anything that has happened or is happening here (I don't like a lot of what has happened but that's another topic). I'm just saying I can see how this thing is playing out. If the team shows real progress this year, then those two guys will be back here again in 2022. But - if the season just looks like a rerun of the last two years, then I think it's the end of the road for those two.
People have been saying they've been guaranteed a few years due to Fields being here now. But I don't buy they will save their jobs if the team struggles. And not letting Pace have an 8th year here is not a "quick firing" by any means. I think the Bears have given him every opportunity to build something good here.
So. If they show some real progress, they'll save their jobs. If they don't show some evidence of progress, they'll be let go at the end of the season. Drafting Fields in-and-of-itself doesn't change that. Fields won't be "damaged" if we have to bring in a new GM and HC. This won't be a knee-jerk quick firing by any means. Can't keep under-performing guys forever. Eventually you have to try something/someone else.

Yeah, I thought drafting Fields made them "safe" and bought them a couple more years barring a meltdown. But...
With the Fields situation looking more and more like another Nagy screwup and all the carping going on from players and coaches, I'm not so sure anymore. If Bears lose at home on Sunday to a clearly non-playoff caliber team, the shit is gonna really start hitting the fan.
