Put it this way:
I would have LIKED to have been able to blame Dalton for the loss yesterday. Meaning, the rest of the team played well and the roster looks solid but we are just lacking a top notch QB. That would be great! Then all we would have to do is develop Fields and get him ready and voila we would be in the mix for 2022.
But that's not what we have. We aren't just "a QB away" (with a good prospect learning on the bench). We are way more than that. If the Bears and Rams switched starting QBs last night, the Bears still would have lost handily.
+1
I'm accepting "reality" for what it is. Forget last night's loss for a minute and just look at the Chicago Bears team and what is there. LOL, I'm not going on a rant (no worries) but honestly I see the work product of 7 years of Ryan Pace as our GM. I look at Matt Nagy and the roster and I think "this is it?"
I can't change anything. The past is water over the dam. And I fully admit there are some "good things" with this team now... Fields seems legit. There are others too. But surely 7 years should showcase more than this, right? We all know the history of things that got us to this point.
I understand that when you hire a first time rookie GM and a first time rookie HC - that there is a learning curve that goes along with that. I accept that. I have just kept hoping, year after year, that these two would show significant progress and development. Not saying they haven't done anything good here. They have. But it just seems too little.
I think Pace had (in his own mind) set this team up for a run with Trubisky. When that failed it was a domino effect. The defense has passed its shelf-life. Trubisky is busted. Nagy looks marginal at best as a HC. He just looks like a guy who is "in over his head" as a head coach. Nice guy. I want to like him as our HC. But boy. You sure scratch your head when you watch him run this team.
I'm not even angry anymore. It is what it is.
