Am I right think Perriman is another speedster. If so, there is going to be some serious speed in this WR room!
Great speed, zero hands
He's a dropapotamus
But for a WR5 he's a solid pickup IMO
After coming back for the anger of the Adams waive to add Perriman, I think it makes sense. There is a wealth of speed on this O now. Sure, hands are questionable, but you still have to respect the deep ball. If Dalton can hit one of those guys week 1, and that's not a scrub secondary, teams will have to respect them going forward. Yuge! *if* but I'm cautiously optimistic for week 1. It's their DL vs our OL that's gonna make me cry.
I was expecting an open competition for the starting CB job. But I thought Trufant would at least make the roster. I predict the Bears are going to need all the helo in the world at the defensive backs positions this year. Letting Fuller go was a huge mistake, and Nagy is going to pay for it.
Johnson and Vildor better ball out in their sophomore years cuz right now the Bears CB group looks like a dumpster fire.
And what are the odds that both of these CBs are healthy all 17 games? We fret about the OL, but this is going to be the downfall this year.

Hard to believe that we have all the issues that we do, Oline, CB’s, qb, and (other than ARob) an unproven group at WR. After 7 years under Pace I was certainly hoping for better.

That's the point I have been making here lately. After 7 years, a truly head-and-shoulders-above GM would have constructed a stacked roster by now. Other GMs have done it in far less than 7 years.
Let's assume for a minute that Fields works out and becomes the franchise starter we all hope he can be. Obviously that's a huge piece of the puzzle. But even with that granted hypothetically, the Bears roster is still pretty swiss cheese-like.
OL, particular OT, is shaky
CB looks awful unless a couple 2nd yr players really come on strong
WR is just meh and the best guy in the group is leaving in a year because the GM hasn't been able to re-sign him despite it being a no-brainer
Even TE isn't anything more than "potential" at this point. Behind Kmet, there's a 35 yo in his last year and a bunch of UDFAs
Even in Justin Fields won OROY this year, the Bears roster just isn't solid enough for a deep run. And yeah, after 7 years Ryan Pace owns responsibility for that. This is HIS TEAM.
Gabriel's take on the Roster as of today. They wanted to see what changes would happen yesterday, which he predicted would happen last week.
Two things Ric. First, thanks for posting these dynamite videos. They are outstanding. Second, in this particular video, you see a lot of logic and evidence as to why this roster is stacked pretty darned well. Gabriel says this is the most speed he's seen on a Bears roster. Ever. And not just talking about the WR position. He goes through this 53 man roster man-by-man from a scouts perspective. And he points out a LOT of things I had not considered.
For folks reading this, if you haven't listened to this video, it's a "must see" one if you really want to know what we have on this team right now. Point by point. Fact by fact. It's just a professional scout who knows a heck of a lot more than meatball fans (like me).
He is sky high on this OL. He thinks there is outstanding young talent there. Young players who will be solid. He says Jenkins will be fine and won't miss that many games this season before we see him back. He's sky high on Larry Borom. Sounds like we stole that guy and he's going to be a great starter. He says the talk about Peters being old and washed up is bullshit. And to be honest, watching him work last Saturday - I 100% agree with Gabriel. He likes Mustipher. A lot. And points out that Olin Kreutz things Mustipher is going to be a rock solid center for us. Kreutz knows more about this than the meatball fans. If Olin thinks Mustipher is the real-deal. Then he is.
There were so many GREAT comments and insights in that video. But one really stood out to me. Gabriel really really really likes Horsted and has since he was watching him in college. He says we'll probably see him take a step this season and then be our Jimmy Graham replacement next season. Gotta admit that statement stunned me. But Gabriel says he's special. A special TE. How cool would THAT be if he does in fact pan out like that?
People are worried about how "old" this roster is. But it seems like we do have a lot of young people in the pipeline here. Gabriel says that to a certain extent this roster has had a major remake. And when you look at this 53 man roster you see it. LOL, he things the Bears are going to get beat by the Rams (said it's going to be a tough game) but I'm thinking we should have a lot of fun as fans this year watching these new youngsters - including Fields - develop. Next season in 2022 we could legitimately see a great team here. If that young talent on the OL do turn out as good as Gabriel is saying then a perennial weakness may end up being a Bears strength. LOL, as I type this I can hardly believe it.
I have officially crawled back in from the ledge (for now) :-)
I watched the entire video. Thanks for posting, Ric.
GG has a more positive view than I do about the roster. I hope he's right and I'm wrong. I feel his take is a lot of positive projection and rose-colored glasses stuff.
Proof is in the pudding. We are playing a solid team week 1 that has legit contender status. Let's see this team surprise some people and look for real vs the Rams, even if they lose by 3. I'll happily eat more words if they do.

He admits he's an optimist when it comes to this stuff, he doesn't look to deep into pre season outside of who one individual matchups. But he actually goes back and watches stuff over and over again to see what happened for each player, at least along the lines. He said he'll decide what he thinks the team is during the regular season when it all matters.
