That makes zero sense. If he's coaching to keep his job, or be employable in the future, why wouldn't he want the league to see he can run a good offense? I mean lets think about some things here.
I admit it is hard to get inside Nagy's head. Why the hell PROMISE Dalton that he will be QB1 come hell or high water when you KNOW your plan in the draft is to land one of the top QB's like Fields? THAT IS WHAT MAKES NO SENSE. But he did it anyway and he feels his own integrity demands keeping the promise. Now, given all that, if he has Fields playing some with the 1's in the preseason AND he outplays Dalton by a mile, the fans are going to roast Nagy, and there might even be a LOCKER ROOM REVOLT by the players. You don't want to lose the locker room before the season even starts. So the solution is to start Dalton against the Rams to keep the promise, but then get Fields in there the first time the Bears lose a game and Dalton plays poorly. Once Nagy keeps his promise, there is no more reason to delay getting Fields in there to try to win some games and save Nagy's job. I think this theory covers all bases.
Covers all bases...and in that theory Fields will start game 2 because I don't see us beating the Rams. In fact Dalton might not make it out of that game alive.

LOL
Bears chance of winning week 1 with Dalton: 10% Dalton's chance of getting wrecked week 1: 50%

10%? So you think Las Vegas point spread will be 7+ ?

I don't really follow Vegas odds very carefully but yeah I gotta figure Bears should be 7pt dogs on the road vs a clearly superior team. We are gonna need Stafford to throw a couple pics to have a chance.
