And I get sick of hearing about "Bears Weather" before a big game at Soldier Field with a dome team and they end up kicking our a$$ in the game in the frigid weather. LOL, I don't even want to hear the Bears weather comments anymore. It means nothing to me.

I've gone to some unreal cold miserable games at Soldier Field over the past several years. So cold we were dressed like Eskimos and sometimes enduring crazy high winds on top of the arctic cold (one was gusting up to 40mph). A miserable experience. LOL, what do you prove by that? That you're too crazy to watch the game on TV?

I'd be fine getting a "real" football stadium and not rent space from the Chicago Park District and have to deal with the aftermath of what's left after stuff like rock concerts and whatever other crazy event took place and tore up the field sod.

To be honest, I never really thought the McCaskeys would even consider moving, but mighty glad they put in the bid. Hope they get it too. For those nostalgia fans I'd remind them that we watched Bears games at Wrigley Field long before they rented space at Solider Field. It's not like there's some Holy Grail to being at SF. It was just a cheap place to rent by the McCaskeys for the years following the Wrigley years.

And if some die-hard fan wants to sit in the arctic Illinois cold to watch Bears games anyway, well, just run an extension cord to your back yard and sit in a snow drift and watch it on your TV. LOL, whatever floats your boat.

And I showed that "bear" weather doesn't even benefit the Bears in a previous post; maybe it would make sense if you could get preferential draft based on where the draftee grew up or went to college, but that isn't the case, guys on your team have as much of a shot of being from the South as the North, if not more of a shot being from the South.

mentioned the overall record since the Bears moved, it's not good, but at home at SF it's 222 166 and 1 or appox 57%. Prior to that it was 224 86 and 23 70%. You should want your team to be more then 50-60% at home. Get the hell out of SF, it's been terrible for them.

Well, technically, it's 'a suburb of Chicago' and if it helps jumpstart a new chapter in the legacy that restores a tradition of championship, them I'm for the move. Just don't ever start down the "they're no longer the CHICAGO Bears, then" road.

But I am NOT in favor of a dome; I don't care what the stats support. What I support is football: An American sport traditionally played outdoors in the Fall and Winter months.

Retractables are fine, but only to avoiding cancellations due to extreme weather situations.

Retractable roofs allow the site to host events that aren't a "American sport traditionally played outdoors". One of the big knocks on football stadiums constructed with public funding (at least partially) is that they are used only sparingly throughout the calendar year.

I get the argument of not wanting to change the game because it was originally an outdoor sport. But times change and football is always changing and evolving whether we like it or not. If it didn't we'd still be watching guys in leather helmets playing a game that doesn't have the forward pass - and playing with a ball that looks more like a giant pumpkin than the football we see today. It would be the old "three yards and a cloud of dust" thing that was boring as hell. Like watching paint dry when compared to modern age football. Look up those old scores... games (a lot of them) were 3-0, 6-0, 7-3 type events.

The world won't end if we have something like a retractable roof. Have it open in decent weather, but close it for the really bad weather. In extremely bad weather it's not even decent football to watch. I don't see the point of doing that in an age where you don't have to do it.

I still remember being in college at a fraternity convention, as the national fraternity was talking about making severe changes to how we would recruit in the future. There was a lot of heated talks about it.

There was a chapter president from one of the major colleges that we ended up talking to at a bar; we just had a conversation that worked in and out of topics, and at the end he stated very pointedly that while tradition is nice, in the end it's for people who cannot think for themselves.

It hit hard and insulting, but also correct. The Fraternity was thinking years out for it's own survival, and the college kids were thinking 2-4 yrs. Looking back now, they were dead on, thinking about the last 10-15 yrs you cannot do the things we were doing and stay afloat. The advancement in cell phone technology was going to create a ton of issues; and that was before social media, before myspace and facebook where huge. You recruited and hazed like we did(and we weren't 1/2 as bad as the horror stories i heard from large colleges) would get you sued and the fraternity, chapter and national would have closed.

Don't look back, don't rely on tradition. Tradition has held the Bears back for the better part of 30 years, run game and def that's what the Bears are right; meanwhile football changed right before their eyes and they stayed blind to it.

I look at like this.. A tradition is a tradition, because it worked. At some point in the past. If it no longer works for whatever reason - times changing, rules changing, whatever, it's time to start a new tradition.

Move to Arlington. Build a retractable roof stadium. Host a super bowl. Be a home participant in that super bowl. Make THAT a tradition!

This goal post is a tradition that has long since been changed. Yowsa! I can't believe anybody thought it was a good idea to put a 4x4 post on the goal line.

And at one time in football a field goal was 4 points instead of 3. And notice that back when this pic was taken, even the leather helmets were optional. Stuff changes. That's life.

You supporting this logic is surprising, seeing how it's the same logic currently being used to shout people down. I say people who use this logic deem themselves important because no one else does. How's that sound? I've said it, so it must be true! ... WTF? You've railed against this very thing before.

All I said was I hold a traditional view of football as a sport played outdoors in the fall and winter. I'm not a mindless idiot afraid of change. Last thing I expected was to be ridiculed.

I said nothing about leather helmets or giant pumpkins. What is that? Changes that created health and safety improvements weren't argued. No one said anything about sending football back in time. Why was that even brought up? I only said I see football being a fall/winter sport that should be played outdoors and suddenly I'm the mayor of boomerville.

Hold on... this may come as a shock, but there are people who actually DO NOT prefer the aerial circus of modern football (leather helmets not withstanding). Why lampoon the run game? What for? Because it lacks excitement? "Three yards and a cloud of dust" is not boring to everyone. Running the football brings a degree of struggle that's now missing in today's vaunted air power. There are people who feel the passing game "has progressed" the sport to the ridiculous. It's why today we discuss ideas like... Separate pay caps for quarterbacks, because the passing game has boiled down to one important player and 21 other guys and it's why people are walking away.

Those 0-3 scores still declare a winner just as much as a game ending up 35-35 tie.

Football is becoming what baseball was 20 years ago; screw brainpower and chicanery, just hit the piss out of the ball and hope it goes over the wall because that's what the fans want... EXCITEMENT!

Much of what has changed in Football has been for the better; for the fans, for the clubs and for the players. But not all of it.

I'll also say this; if there's room for change, there's room for tradition. There's no room for dictating terms or you can just stop calling it Football and change it to Armball.

I am allowed to speak my mind here, right?
