Sounds like the young McCaskey kids want Virginia's money - now. They are tired of waiting for her to die to get their payday.
It always disgusts me when “kids” are behaving like this. It’s not “their” money, it’s Virginia’s. Be thankful you’re getting anything at all.
+1
That was my reaction to this also. George Halas, and later his daughter, Virginia (majority owner), built a $3.5 BILLION dollar business entity from a $100 initial investment. But these younger family kids haven't done anything to deserve a penny. George McCaskey has put in some work... but these youngsters now? Nothing. But they want the cash now. Can't even wait for Virginia to pass away first. I've been critical of the family decisions over the years. They've had all kinds of problems trying to win another super bowl after '85, but I've always felt that Virginia wanted to win. They just didn't know how to get it done. They're not alone. 12 of the 32 NFL teams have never even won 1 super bowl. Zero. Obviously it's not an easy thing to accomplish.
But yeah, it's a bit disgusting that the kids want the cash now, and don't want to wait.
Here are a few points made in the article (it's a good read worth reading in its entirety):
"... there is a growing number of heirs of that piece of the pie. You’re now talking about shares being split, how many ways? Virginia has 40+ grandchildren."
"... I find it hard to believe that the McCaskeys are bound to throw up a for sale sign, but it is an interesting time for the topic to come up.
"The former site of Arlington Race Track keeps coming up as a possible future site of a Chicago Bears-owned and financed stadium project. That’s another huge piece of the money pie, but it’s not a greatly kept secret that the McCaskeys, among NFL ownership, aren’t liquid-cash rich enough to do a deal like that."
"Something tells me that the McCaskeys are too proud to sell and walk away, especially when they just had their handpicked duo draft perhaps the most important player of the last 46 years, at least. Money talks though and there’s a lot of it out there. It’s worth keeping an eye on, but this is merely one small report being put out there."
Pat Ryan and Neil Bluhm would keep the team in Chicago but both of them are nearly as old as Virginia.
Neither Bezos of Musk strike me as football fans.
Neither one would flinch if it was financially beneficial to move the team.
In fact, if isn't someone based out of Chicago, I don't want them owning the team.
no one would move them out of Chicago, the NFL owners would allow it; would be different if they were multiple teams in Chicago(like LA), or in IL(like CA/TX/FL) but the NFL is not allowing a team to walk away from one of the largest TV markets in the US.
Could they move to a suburb, like AH, sure but it would be Chicago.

After the NFL lost their lawsuit against Al Davis and his Oakland move, they've never again had the stomach for it. Ask Baltimore.
And I'm not talking about the Browns/Ravens move.
The state went so far a to enact legislation authorizing the city to seize the team. That pissed Irsay off more than anything else and he did what he wanted. The NFL did nothing.

Yes they would; for the same reason they would never let the Cowboys leave Dallas, and tried to shoehorn 2 teams into LA. Oakland is small fries and a shithole, and that same market still has the 49rs. Chicago is huge top 3 only behind LA and NY; and btw, the uber corrupt chicacgo courts wouldn't let them leave either, they know the cashcow that is the Bears for the city. The NFL will not have a top 10 TV market w/out an NFL team ever again.

Exactly, the NFL will never let the Bears move from Chicago... Maybe to AH, but not leaving the State of Illinois.

Not leaving that TV market. It just won't happen; and only way it would is if there was a 2nd team added to that TV market; again like Oakland. Moreover, no new owner would ever think of leaving the 3rd largest TV market to go to a smaller market, or a larger market where the market is already hyper competitive w/multiple teams(LA/NY).
You don't spend a billion to just rando move a team to a different location that is smaller in population and market size for funzie's. You'd never make your money back.
