I have no prediction until I see what happens with Fields. They were talking about him and Nagy on GMF this morning. They said that when Russell Wilson was drafted in the third round, Seahawks had zero expectation that he would be day-1 starter. However, he was so impressive in training camp that they could not keep him off the field. They said same about Cam Newton. He came out and threw for 400 yards! Is Fields going to blow Dalton off the field in training camp? For me, that would be worth 4 games in my prediction.
Also, every time I look at Bears schedule this year, I cringe. We will have to play much better than last year just to achieve .500.

I've been thinking about this since we drafted Fields. I keep coming back to the thought that Field should be starting when the coaches believe he is ready. That could very well be game-1 of the season. But if for some reason the coaches think he's not ready yet, then don't. Physically he's ready, but there is more to being a starting QB than just having a cannon arm. On the other hand, everything I read about Justin Fields is that his football IQ is "off the charts" high. And when I say start him when he's ready to start, that doesn't mean you hold him back until he's a polished product. Some stuff he has to learn with actual game reps in meaningful regular season games. I get that. But make sure he's prepared to not crash and burn when you start him. My gut feeling is that we are all going to be pleased by how early he IS ready & gets to be our starter.

If Fields has the football IQ to match his physical abilities, he will know the playbook backwards and forwards by the end of training camp and the only thing remaining to his development is to get on the field in real NFL games. He might be as good as Dalton even on opening day and, even not, I personally would not mind losing a few games early in the season in order to have him progress up the learning curve faster. Hell, none of us had high hopes in the W/L department before the draft, anyway. And, seeing the final schedule does not bode well, either. If Dalton is the starter, and the Bears begin 2-3, there will be pressure to get Fields in there.
I suppose it can be argued that Nagy threw Trubisky into the starter role before he was ready, but, given Trubiskly's obvious limitations, he was never going to be truly ready to do the job Nagy had envisioned for him. It just was not in the cards from the start.
Finally, the third option would be to have Fields and Dalton split time at QB in the early games, and then gradually increase Fields playing time as he (hopefully) progresses with more game experience. I am thinking of how New Orleans used their QBs last season.

I hope they don't go with that option #3 (the time share between Fields & Dalton). Fields is either ready or not ready to lead the Bears at QB. When he is ready, get him in there and then it's his team. He's "The Guy" for the Bears.

What in the heck is going on up in Green Bay, ptisme? It sounds like a total mess. Is it a problem with the organization, or Aaron Rodgers, or a bit of both?

Hmmmm..... Well considering Rodgers is the guy that disowned his entire FREAKING family I'm guessing he needed extra attention.... The packers front office didn't read the user manual that clearly stated that their Corvette needed to be waxed and polished weekly....

On one hand, yeah Rodgers seems to be an egomaniac even by the elevated standards of star-QBs and the guy seems to have a pathological desire to hang onto grudges and grievances.
On the other hand, he isn't the only elite-QB to want/expect influence over roster construction (PManning and Brady got it & Russell Wilson is making a similar push in Seattle) and everyone saw how well it worked last year in Tampa. And Packers GMs don't exactly have a lot of credibility pushing back on this issue as they have drafted pretty poorly the last 5 years or so. I really have no idea WTF Gute was thinking in moving up to take Jordan Love in the 1st round last year. That was really stupid--A) it was guaranteed to piss off AR, especially cuz it was such a surprise, B) Jordan Love wasn't worth that kind of capital (QBs of his ilk are available on Day 2 every year just like Mond and Mills this yr), and C) even if the pick was "good", it was easily 2 years too soon. The latter point virtually assured there'd be a "QB controversy".
Two choices here: either placate Rodgers which assures your 1st round pick was a massive waste OR move on from him no later than a year from now.
Ideally, if you have an elite QB, you'd think a GM would work to have the GM, HC & elite QB work closely together. Mutual cooperation through well-earned respect for one another. Everybody wins. Every stakeholder gets some satisfaction out of that. Maybe the Bears can learn from this, and if Justin Fields were to become an elite franchise QB then you never get into a situation like Green Bay has gotten into with AR. It doesn't mean the QB runs the franchise. Rather you have the 3 guys working together to achieve a common goal (winning). But you have to build the trust in that kind of relationship. Mutual respect and trust.
I think that's the critical failure in the Rodgers-GB relationship.
