I found this comment by an NFL exec interesting. He was saying that picking Fields in this draft instead of paying the greater price for an old Wilson, was a better move due to the fact that they can surround Fields with the talent he needs to succeed here. He doubted they could do that adequately with Wilson after trading away assets. His comment on Allen Robinson is interesting. Personally, I think they need to lock up ARob now. If not then I suspect the Bears will need more time to be truly competitive as a top-5 team in the NFL or better, winning a SB. ARob is legit "proven" talent. He is the #1 talent on offense. After him we have some guys who show "potential" of being good... but they are not proven top-tier talent yet. Not the receivers and really not at TE. As much as I like Kmet's potential, he has not "arrived" yet as a proven talent. Instead of going backwards and letting our #1 asset walk, we need to be ADDING talent. JMO.

"One executive was emphatic in picking Fields in that scenario.
“Because at least they can surround the kid with some players,” the executive said. “Unless your roster is final or solid for the next three years, and no roster is really ever that way because of the turnover, then who are they going to improve the roster with if they land Wilson? Wilson would give them a premium player at the position but you can’t tell me that offense is ready to win now.
“They busted on Trubisky and they went all-in thinking they could chase a Lombardi Trophy with him. They didn’t have enough offensive weapons with him and don’t have enough offensive weapons to be a threat right now. They’ve got one wide receiver (Allen Robinson) right now and they don’t want to pay him long-term. What they’ve done is created time for themselves with Fields. Time to develop him and now more picks to build the roster around him.”
